Jason Vance Obituary

Jason James Vance, 48 of Westminster, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home. Born September 2, 1975, in Cumberland, he was the beloved husband of the late Sharon Lee (Jobes) Vance, who was the light of his life and predeceased him in death in March 2020. Together they adored Porter Baldwin, their Schnauzer, Jack Russel mix. He was the cherished son of the late Harold J. Vance and Ruth E. (Shields) Carski (husband Michael Lee Carski) of Littlestown, PA. Jason was a graduate of Oakland Mills High School, Class of 1993. He earned his horticulture degree from the University of Maryland. Jason interned at Meadows Farms Nurseries & Landscaping. With his love of plants and people, Jason quickly rose to manager and worked for the nursery for over 29 years. Jason had many hobbies and ultimately met his wife of over 9 years through the Frederick County Jeep Club. Together they enjoyed flowers, gardening, and cruising. He was known for his lightning-fast humor and dry wit. To his family and friends Jason was the plant expert, was always willing to lend a hand, or an ear to listen. He was a ham radio operator, avid rail fan, G Scale model railroader, train enthusiast and outstanding photographer. He was a past member of the Washington, Virginia, Maryland Garden Railroad Society. He was a current member of The Western Maryland Historical Society, Friends of East Broad Top, Friends of Cass Scenic Railroad. Of Scottish descent, he also was a member of the Maryland Emerald Society. In addition to his wife and father, Jason was predeceased in death by his paternal grandparents Bert and Virginia Vance, and maternal grandfather James A. Shields. He is survived by maternal grandparents Harriett and Ralph Murphy of Midlothian, MD; Mother-in-law Lana Jobes of Palm Bay, FL; Uncle David Shields (Carolyn) of Williamsport, MD; Aunts Arlene Shields of Baltimore, MD, Lorena Cutright (Matthew) of Palm Coast, FL, Faith Murphy (Joy) of Cumberland, Md, Kathleen Murphy of Manassas, VA; Stepdaughter Jessica Hunger (George) of West Seneca, NY and their children Olivia, Nathan and Matthew. Jason also leaves behind 3 sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and over 40 cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will welcome friends on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 4pm to 5pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, MD. A memorial service will begin at 5pm with Rev.
