Jeffrey Todd Shilling

Jeffrey Todd Shilling, 54, of Cambridge, Md., died peacefully in Jacksonville, Fla. on Sunday, November 16,2014, after a long and courageous battle with a rare disease, polyarteritis nodosa. Todd was born on March 29, 1960 in Baltimore, Md., to Joseph L. and Joan Backhaus Shilling. Todd was a devoted family man. He is survived by his siblings and their families, Sallyn S. Pajcic, Jennifer R. and James Berkman, Jhan S. and Anthony Tangires, Jon Scott Shilling, and Synthia S. and Steven Kucner. He cherished and leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him. He had the undying love of and will be missed by his grandmother, Ruby W. Shilling, of Westminster, and aunts and uncles, R. Edward and Dory Shilling, also of Westminster, Sandra Shilling Davis, of Deland, Fla. and Charles and Dorothy Bramble, of Cambridge, and their families. Todd was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Lora Lee Shilling, his grandfather, Richard L. Shilling, and brother-in-law, Gary Pajcic. Todd was an accomplished businessman, and leader in his community. He founded Bay Country Communications in 1989, and built a diverse company, with his brother, Scott. They brought many services and infrastructure to the Eastern Shore, city of Cambridge, and its surrounding communities. Todd and Scott leveraged their business to become philanthropists who supported many community projects and activities, improving the community and the quality of life of its citizens and youth. His employees became devoted friends. Todd's accolades as an athlete were many. He excelled in many sports in high school. His love of football took him to Shippensburg University, where he was an integral part of the football program from 1978-81, plaing defensive end. As a senior he helped the team become the first sport in Red Raider history to reach the NCAA playoffs. He still hold records there today. He founded Pop Warner Football in Cambridge and coached and supported the athletic programs in his community. As a proud and avid Eastern Shoreman, Todd enjoyed athletics, time on the water crabbing and fishing, gardening, traveling, and a love of history. He loved parenting his dogs, Valentine and BamBam, who gave him companionship and great joy. He joins them in heaven. Always giving of himself, Todd believed in organ donation. He was able to give the gift of sight by donating his beautiful eyes. Family will receive all whose lives were touched by Todd from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Dorchester Center for the Arts, 321 High Street, Cambridge, Md. 21613. Further arrangements for a celebration of his life, well-lived, are forthcoming.
