Joe Starr Obituary

On July 22, 2021, Ronald Joe Starr, 82, of Westminster, MD died at the Dove House surrounded by his family's love. Born in Wooster, OH on January 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Paul Arthur Starr and Clarissa Jane Sapp Starr. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Koontz Starr for 52 years. He graduated from Ohio University, entered the Navy, and served in Vietnam, Greece, Spain and Antarctica. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked in retail sales and management. He had a great sense of humor and could be found reading, tinkering in his workshop, or outside on his tractor mowing. Family was everything to him. He enjoyed their family travels, especially exploring the National Parks with his personal naturalist, his daughter Erica. He instilled in her a love of learning, self reliance, and strength. A lover of animals, he had a special bond with his cat Blue and liked watching the wildlife in the backyard. Predeceasing him were his parents, his brother Paul Larry Starr and brother-in -law Howard E. Koontz III. Surviving in addition to his wife, are his daughter Erica Ann Starr, sisters- in- law Nancy B. Koontz and Ann M. Koontz, and brother- in- law Vince Smeriglio. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME Westminster. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at WWW.MYERSDURBORAWFH.COM.
