John W. Mackley Jr.

1933 - 2025

John William Mackley Jr., age 91, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Lorien in Taneytown. Born April 2, 1933, in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late John W. Mackley Sr. and Margaret Fleischman Mackley. He was the husband of the late Annabelle Heffner Mackley, who died in 2004. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 241st T Port Company and prior to his retirement, he worked for Lehigh Cement Company in the mill room and quarry for 43 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Union Bridge VFW Post 8806 and St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed boating, fishing, bus trips, hunting, dining out, and playing bingo. Surviving are daughter Teresa A. Wilson of Westminster, grandchildren John R. Wilson and wife Amy, Jennifer Wagner and husband Dustin, Janice Weishaar and husband John, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Brenda Lee Carbaugh and husband Robert "Bob" Carbaugh and son-in-law David "Gus" Wilson. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 PM Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway St., Union Bridge. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 10th at the funeral home with Rev. Darla (Dee) Ledger officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Union Bridge.
