Martha Jean Weisgerber, 90 of Westminster died on June 5, 2021 after a short illness. She had just enjoyed celebrating her 90th birthday with her family on May 23. She was a resident of the Brightview Senior Living Center in
Westminster, Maryland. Born in
Junction City, Kansas to Everett O. and Dorothy M. Stephens, she was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 57 years, George Ronald Weisgerber in 2015. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. As a young girl, Martha moved to
Pharr, Texas located in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. She graduated from Pharr-San Juan Alamo High School and the University of Texas in Austin in Fashion Merchandising. She worked in retailing in Houston and Corpus Christi prior to teaching elementary school in Corpus Christi. While working in Corpus Christi she met her eventual husband, Ron, a naval officer stationed in Corpus Christi. In 1959, Martha and Ron moved to Baltimore to start their family. Martha devoted her life to her family. She and her husband moved to rural Westminster in 1961 when Ron began his career with Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. She was an avid sports fan and watched the Baltimore Orioles games and University of Maryland sports teams hoping for a win. She especially loved tennis and would watch all rounds of any tournament. She enjoyed traveling the world with the University of Maryland and McDaniel College Alumni Associations. She believed in education and was an avid reader of all literary genres and the Carroll County Times. She will be remembered for her generosity for supporting the summer camp program at The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Millersburg, PA, Shippensburg University, the University of Maryland Engineering College, and Carroll Hospital among other community organizations. She is survived by children and their spouses David B. Weisgerber and Maura Fisher of Frederick, Janice N. and Jerry Regan of
State College, PA, Susan D. and Michael DiPietro of Westminster; and grandchildren William, Jack and Drew Weisgerber, Michael and Kevin Regan, Sam and Margi DiPietro. A private graveside service for her family will be held at Meadow Branch Cemetery at a later date.
