Marvin Majewski Obituary

Marvin "Hank" Lee Majewski, 81, died on December 21, 2020 at his home in Westminster, Maryland after a courageous battle with cancer. Family was the most important thing in Hank's life, and he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sally Caless Majewski; his children, Amy Aguggia and her husband Paul, Lisa Jenne and her husband Bill, and Leigh Pusateri and her husband John; his grandchildren, Michael Aguggia and his wife Ali, Emily Aguggia, Carleigh Jenne, Zane Pusateri, Sarah Jenne, Sophie Pusateri, Jansen Pusateri, and Lauren Jenne; his great granddaughter, Francesca Aguggia; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Caless. Holidays and gatherings with family and friends brought Hank immeasurable joy. Hank graduated from the University of Baltimore in 1961. He was a two-sport (basketball and golf) scholarship athlete. He is a member of the City College of Baltimore Hall of Fame, as well as the University of Baltimore Hall of Fame for both basketball and golf. He also attended the University of Baltimore School of Law. Not at all surprising to those who knew him even casually, Hank pursued his passion and dedicated his professional life to the game of golf. Hank's long and distinguished career in golf began as a ten year old "underage" caddie at Baltimore Country Club and spanned decades marked by awards and accomplishments as a player and a Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) professional. Hank served as assistant professional at Burning Tree Club and Baltimore Country Club. He then successfully developed golf programs as head professional at the newly established Hobbit's Glen and Allview golf courses in Columbia, Maryland. In 1985, Hank fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming the owner and PGA Director of Golf at Wakefield Valley Golf Club. Hank served as President of the Mid-Atlantic PGA and on the National Board of the PGA of America. He is a member of the Mid-Atlantic PGAHall of Fame and the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame, and he was honored as the Mid-Atlantic PGA Professional of the Year and the PGA of America Professional of the Year in 1988. Hank especially championed junior golf, and his numerous accomplishments in expanding awareness of and access to the game, no less extraordinary than his public accolades, were a source of enduring pride. He was instrumental to the creation of the Maryland Junior Open, orchestrated a program that brought youngsters from the inner city to Hobbit's Glen, and single-handedly rescued the Howard County Public School System Golf Program from budget cut induced extinction. Everyone fortunate to play a round of golf with Hankno doubt recalls his prodigious talent, unfailingly positive attitude, sheer joy of being on the course, coaching ability, and always encouraging demeanor. He made you feel like the pro. He will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. In the spirit of continuing his commitment to the game of golf, particularly his long-standing dedication to junior golf, Hank's family, through the Mid-Atlantic PGA Foundation (PGA REACH Middle Atlantic), has established the Hank Majewski Scholarship Fund to assist junior golfers with college expenses. Sally and family, my thoughts and prayers extend to you. I considered Hank a very fine person and a friend. Early on we served on some Mid Atlantic PGA committees together. And I was one of the guys that traveled with Hank to Florida and the west coast playing golf and hanging out for many winters over. He would make all the arrangements and was a joy to travel with. Always upbeat and fun. Many years past the club I ran sold and I was out of a job. I know it was Hank that put the bug in Jim Hardy's ear that I would be a good fit. Things worked out well and Hank never mentioned it, but I knew that was his way, always out to help someone. I am sad I did not stay in touch during our twilight years but I have fond memories. I know Hank is in a better place now, probably helping someone and never taking credit. Regards Art Carson, PGA
