Nancy Rescigno Obituary

Nancy Janice Ryan Rescigno was surrounded by her three children Troy, Sean and Jil Winburn when she died on March 15, 2021 from pancreatic cancer at age 81. With the help of her children and Sean's partner Teresa Howard, she was able to stay home as she wished.  She was born in Loretto, KY, to Irish Catholic parents, the 9th of 10 children, in a 3 bedroom house built by her father with no indoor plumbing and a coal stove for heat. There was a lot of love, humor and saying of the rosary. She was close with her siblings, particularly her 5 sisters. Her rustic upbringing made her independent and always moving forward and through things, which she instilled into her children. Because of her humble beginnings, she was grateful for most everything and rarely complained.   Mom always progressed with the times and rarely spoke of the past; after high school she moved to the big city of Louisville, went to college for a year as well as worked at Colgate-Palmolive and then married Robert Winburn. After she had children, she was a stay at home mom and then decided to finish college in her 30's and went to work for the US Treasury Department as a Customs Inspector of large cargo ships in Dundalk Marine Terminal, which she really enjoyed. She divorced, and when her children were grown she remarried Jerry Rescigno, embarking on trips around the world together including many European and Asian countries and New Zealand, among others, sometimes taking their grandchildren, which brought her great joy.   Her second marriage ended but she continued her lifelong love of hiking and painting, landscapes, portraits and still lifes, she was adept at all equally, in addition to being a Master Gardener. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, also studied Buddhist philosophy and volunteered with Our Daily Bread.  She is being cremated and taken back to her roots in Kentucky where a celebration of her life will be held this summer when Covid hopefully clears.

Jerry Ryan Rescigno

From Jerry Ryan Rescigno
Mackenzie, Megan, Scott and Jackson were born and grew up during our Marriage.
Nancy loved and enjoyed each one of them as a grandmother would.
She was doting, patient, and enjoyed every visit with them at their homes out West and at our Home.
we took each one to Europe for two weeks, at eleven or older, and loved to entertain them and show them the wonders of the Old World.
They got to enjoy a lot of the food they liked and the Art Museums Nancy showed them.
Those trips will always be with them.
Nancy and I both enjoyed Family.
We both enjoyed our Maryland Family; Nancy found my Italian Family up North warm and interesting; and I treasured my visits to the Kentucky Ryans who always welcomed me as family.
Our trip with the Ryan sisters and nieces to Ireland, and the many times I enjoyed a dinner with the Sisters were all memorable.
I'm grateful to Nancy for bringing me into her Family and friends, as well as embracing Me and Mine.
Nancy had an Ingrained belief in Heaven after this Life.
I know she is there, and watching over us.

My husband Richard Licht and I became friends with Jerry and Nancy after I had met them on a tour of China. Nancy and Jerry also visited us in Knoxville along with other friends and in Florida. Nanch and I discussed and shared many similar experiences as single Moms and working Moms. She was a wonderful person and may she rest in peace.
