Richard Zimmerman Obituary

of Hampstead Richard Lee Zimmerman Sr., 70, of Hampstead, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster. Born Aug. 3, 1940, in Lutherville, he was the son of the late Joseph Alfred and Lillian Eva Lindeman Zimmerman. He was the husband of Roberta May Oursler Zimmerman, who died in 2000. He had been an equipment operator for 35 years with the Baltimore County Highway Department before retiring. He took pride in his work and had said that he "came to work to work." He had been a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1577 in Reisterstown. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, caring for horses and his dogs, and spending time having coffee with his friends at local Hampstead service stations. He enjoyed vacationing at Deep Creek Lake and Ocean City. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Richard Lee Jr. and Charlene M. Zimmerman, of Hampstead; grandchildren Emily Zimmerman and Richard Lee Zimmerman III, all of Hampstead; and a brother, James Ronald Zimmerman, of Baltimore. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Alfred Zimmerman; and a sister, Lois Ann Zimmerman Shade. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead, with the Rev. Dr. John Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157. I have great love for my favorite gardener - it was a great gift - a priviledge - to be your gardening partner over these last two years. I will miss you but carry you with me in spirit - and remember how you taught me not to take it all too seriously!
