Robert Summers Obituary



Robert Eugene Summers, Sr., age 62, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015 following a battle with cancer at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born May 9, 1953 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Melvin Benjamin Summers and Roxanna Cecilia (Stitley) Summers. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Sharon Lee (Glacken) Summers. Bob was an aluminum metal melter for the Littlestown Foundry for the past 44 years. He was a hardworking individual who loved time with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping and loved radio control tractor trailer trucks. He was a member of the Taneytown American Legion, Harney V.F.W., and the Littlestown Eagles. Surviving him in addition to his wife are a son, Robert E. Summers, Jr. of Taneytown; grandchildren, Hayley and Zachary Summers; brothers, Melvin Summers, Jr. of Taneytown, Daniel Summers of Littlestown; sisters, Bertha Emerson of Littlestown, Mildred Hoffman and husband Wayne of Westminster, and Wilma Cauldill and husband Terry of Taneytown; also many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter-in-law, Melissa Summers; sister-in-law, Sandra Summers; and brothers-in-law, Paul King and Mitch Emerson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Keysville Union Cemetery in Keysville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
