Wilma Cozort Obituary

Wilma Cozort
April 30, 1935-Dec. 18, 2021

Funeral service were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at Union Hill Church of Christ. Visitation will immediately follow services. Burial occurred at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Adams Funeral Home in Nixa.
Wilma Rose (Mullins) Cozort passed peacefully, surrounded by her eight children, on Dec. 18, 2021, at the age of 86. Wilma was born April 30, 1935, in Bakersfield, Missouri, to Wade and Dorothy Faye (Garrett) Mullins. She was a 1952 graduate of Bakersfield High School and attended Burge School of Nursing in Springfield.
Wilma married Herbert Wandell Cozort on Feb. 24, 1954, and postponed her nursing career to raise their eight children. Once the children were grown, Wilma pursued her career and retired from the Cox Health system as a geriatric medical assistant. She was a founding board member of the Christian County Health Department, co-developed the first Cox Geriatric Conference in Springfield, and implemented the Cox Senior Health In-Home Services program during her career.
Wilma was an active, founding member of the Union Hill Church of Christ in Nixa. She loved traveling, reading, baking, creating floral arrangements, drawing, and tending to the family garden. Wilma could play the piano by ear, had a beautiful voice, and loved long conversations with her family and friends. Wilma displayed a servant's heart and opened her home with grace and hospitality to everyone.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Herbert Cozort; one grandson, Justin Eidson; two infant brothers; and three sisters: Mary Watson, Betty Babb, and Donna Rippee.
Wilma's legacy is her family. Her eight children survive her: Rebecca (David) Berry, Susan (Mike) Jones, David (Julie) Cozort, Linda (Mike) Rogers, Jeffrey (Annette) Cozort, Mary (Gordon) Eidson, Daniel (Gina) Cozort, and Steven Cozort. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who all loved Wilma "a bushel and a peck."
