John Broomell Obituary

John Chester Broomell Jr., 72, of Elkton, MD passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born in West Chester, PA on April 11, 1952, he was the son of the late John Broomell Sr. and Shirley Eller.

John was raised by his loving Grandparents, the late Clarence and Anna Elizabeth Broomell of Oxford, PA. John worked as a Route Salesman for Hostess Baking Company and Schmidt Baking Company for many years before he owned his own business, JB Snacks, where he distributed and sold UTZ Quality Products. He owned that business for 10 years prior to his retirement in 2018.

When John wasn't working you could find him on the golf course at one of the various clubs he belonged to over the years. Being one of the original members, he called Patriot's Glen his second home. Teaching his children and grandchildren the love of the game made him so proud. In addition to golf, John had a love for all sports, he was a goalie for the Oxford High Soccer Team and was an avid softball player following graduation in 1970. He passed this passion off to his children as their baseball and softball coach. He extended his talents as a softball umpire and served as the President of Elkton Little League for many years. Later in life, it was his grandchildren that kept his love of sports alive, where you could find him on the sidelines.

Volunteering was a large part of John's life, in addition to his contributions to Elkton Little League he belonged to the Elkton Jaycee's and the Cecil County Chapter of The Special Olympics. Every Labor Day weekend you could find him watching the Jerry Lewis Telethon or raising money to support Jerry's kids, he was equally passionate about watching his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

John loved his family and friends and routed traditions that involved pool parties, holiday cooking, joke telling, karaoke, and singing. He will be dearly missed by his wife and children who will forever keep his memory alive.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 42 years, Jean Romanek Broomell; children, Jami Squitieri (David) and Joshua Broomell (Patty), both of Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Avery Squitieri, Luciano Squitieri, and Lex Ray; numerous nieces and nephews held a place in his heart, however, Jennifer Lee, Deborah Wood, Dominick, Anna, and Roman Massimiano were an extension of his immediate family that he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Lena Romanek.

Funeral service will be held 5 PM, Monday, January 6, 2025 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 3 PM. Interment will be private in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Elkton, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Patriots Glen National Golf Club to fund their youth golf program at 300 Patriots Way, Elkton, MD 21921.
