Anthony R. Broomell Jr.

Anthony Robert Broomell Jr., age 71, while surrounded by his family, sadly passed away on December 15, 2024, after a very difficult 7-month battle with esophageal cancer. Anthony was the oldest of 12 children born to his parents, Anthony Robert Broomell Sr. and Lois Ruth Broomell (nee Ellis).
Anthony was a kind, gentle soul, who had many struggles throughout his life. He was born more than 2 months prematurely at Atlantic City General Hospital in December 1953. He weighed only 2 lb. 11 oz. at birth. Medical treatments for premature babies at that time were very limited, and Anthony was left with developmental issues. These issues were compounded later when Anthony was hit by a car at the age of 12. His injuries were very severe and included a fractured skull that left him in a coma for 19 days. Regardless of all of Anthony's struggles, Anthony never felt sorry for himself, and he always had a great outlook on life. He always saw things in a positive light. He led a very full happy life.
Anthony will be remembered for his great love of bicycling, his church, Facebook, repairing transistor radios and CRT televisions, the Phillies, the Eagles, listening to music, his ability to remember dates, especially birthdays, and of course, his family and friends.
Anthony was a member of The Bike Club of Philadelphia and took his first ride with the club in March 1984. There he had a great group of friends who not only shared his love of bicycling, but they accepted his disabilities and looked out for and cared for Anthony on their rides. These bike club members were so kind and loving to Anthony that they would meet up with him to go on non-club rides. On these rides, they would often stop for lunch to catch up on each other's non-biking lives. And when Anthony became ill, they generously offered their support and visited him, which meant the world to him. Biking was his driving force throughout his battle with cancer. He always questioned his family about when he would be well enough to ride his bike again. We believe he is in heaven riding his bike right now.
Anthony was deeply religious, and for many years, he attended Haws Avenue United Methodist Church. He always looked forward to Sunday services, with Pastor Lisa and his fellow parishioners. Most Sundays, he would stay for the lunch served by the church following services, even posting photos of his meals and photos of himself with his fellow parishioners on Facebook.
Anthony loved Facebook. He kept in touch with many family members and friends on the app. He loved commenting on others' posts, and he loved posting about his own life. He often shared important parts of his life on his page. He posted photos of his family, friends, Sunday lunches, bike rides, various trips he went on, medical appointments, health updates, as well as Phillies and Eagles scores. Anthony was always happy when family and friends commented on his posts. He would take the time to thank each and every person for his/her comment(s) personally.
Anthony loved listening to the radio and watching television. When he was quite young, he listened to transistor radios and CRT televisions. Whenever these items would break, Anthony would take them apart and repair them. He was disappointed when radios and televisions became computerized because he was great at repairing the transistor and CRT versions, but never quite got the hang of repairing the later versions.
Anthony will be missed by his many cousins and friends. However, he will be most dearly missed by his aunt, Edna Ellis, his 10 living siblings and their spouses, Lewis Broomell (Joyce), Michael Broomell, Douglas Broomell, Charles Broomell (Barbara), Patricia Mann (William), Aileen Broomell, Jeffrey Broomell, Gregory Broomell (Marie), Kim Broomell-DeLia (John), Nicole Myers (David). He will also be dearly missed by his many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. His nieces and nephews are: Samantha Kelley (Seth), Heather Davis (Ryan), David Davis, David Myers Jr. (Maryy), Zachary Myers, Skylar Myers (Gavin), John DeLia Jr., Justin DeLia, Colleen Risso (Alec), Natalie Reeves (Thomas), Christopher Broomell, Brandon Broomell (Nash), Ryan Broomell (Catherine), Taylor Broomell, Walter Pasco III, Rene Pasco (Christopher), Brittany Vargas (Ivan), Ashley Smith (David), Brent Mann, Tiffany Broomell (Kevin), and Andrew Broomell, and his great nieces and great nephews include, Markus Vargas, Viktoria Vargas, Mikayla Vargas, Derrick Duryee, Addison Duryee, Abigail Duryee, Jaxon Duryee, Annabelle Duryee, Allison Zamora, Jayce Zamora, Damian Zamora, Kieran McCrary, Lenora, McCrary, David Smith Jr., Cecelia Myers, Amelia Myers, Ophelia Myers, Ryan Broomell Jr., Amelia Reeves, and Madeline Reeves.
Relatives and friends are invited to Anthony's visitation on Saturday December 21, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM followed by his Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at the Raffeo-DiCecco Memorial Home 19 East Germantown Pike, East Norriton
