James Fortune Obituary
In addition to his parents, his sister, Gracie Fortune-Brooks; brother, William Clarence Fortune; and nephew, Charles Linburg Burton, preceded him in death.
James was educated in Louisa County Public School attending high school at the historic A. G. Richardson School. He loved fishing, playing cards, hanging out with friends, and of course, his family. He joined Galilee Baptist Church as a young child. In his career, he worked a few jobs – Jim Price Auto, construction, and his last job was as a farmer.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Tracy Grooms-Key (Ron) of Louisa and Amanda Cullins of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Aaryn Grooms-Key; three sisters, Susie Fortune-Divers (John) of Charlottesville, Ethel Fortune-Barksdale and Denise Anderson of Louisa; his nieces and nephews, Doris Burton Miller, Clarence Leroy Fortune (Bessie), Ivanov Sanders-Hardy and Javanov Barksdale-White (Chad); great-nieces and -nephews, Wendy Pittman (Eric), Brittany Sanders, Meyah Barksdale Carter, Ashley Fortune, Haley Hardy, Charles Burton Jr. (Wendy), Chazz Barksdale-White, Clarence Fortune Jr., Branson Hayes; and many great-great-nieces and -nephews; and special friend, Debra Kay Simms.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Sun Chapel at D. D. Watson Mortician, Louisa, with Pastor Ruben Lewis Jr., officiating. Interment followed in the Galilee Baptist Church cemetery.
Arrangements were made by D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc., Louisa.
