James Soukup Obituary

James Evans Soukup, 58, of Troy, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born September 13, 1957 in Austin, Texas, he was a son of Margaret Belle Soukup of Troy and the late James Rudolph Soukup.
Jim graduated from the University of Tennessee and served in the U.S. Army. He went on to serve as an intelligence specialist for the department of defense for over 30 years and retired from the National Ground Intelligence Center in 2013.
He was a member of the American Legion and was very dedicated to his country. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a former member of ByBee's Road Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church in Fredericksburg. Jim was a diehard Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning fan. He lived by his motto, God, Family, Country.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Paula Ann Soukup of Troy; one daughter, Samantha Shain and husband, Kevin, of Virginia Beach; one son, James Patrick Soukup and wife, Bre, of Williamsburg; a brother, Jeffrey Soukup of Austin, Texas; a sister, Susan Wilson of Sugarland, Texas; sisters-in-law, Dianna Semrau, Theresa Knisley; and brother-in-law, Chuck Miller, all of Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday July 22, 2016 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the funeral home.
