John A. Schalk

John A. Schalk June 11, 1946 February 17, 2017 John A. Schalk, of Centre Hall, passed away on Feb. 17, 2017, at his home. Born June 11, 1946 in Springfield Mass., he was the adopted son of the late Marshall and Dorothy Schalk, of Northampton, Mass. He is survived by three sons, William Schalk, of Florence, Mass., Kiernan M. Schalk, of Lemont, Derek M. Schalk and wife, Beth Crumb, of Windber; grandchildren, Tyler Adams, Nathan Adams, Brennan Schalk and Cheryl Schalk, of Windber and Stephen Schalk, of Florence Mass. Also surviving are a sister, Dory Brown and husband, Julian Brown, of Newton, Mass.; brother, David Schalk, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Ninon Schalk, of El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ellery Schalk, of El Paso, Texas. He was a teacher, forester and United States Air Force veteran. John was an avid reader, traveler and devoted Boston Red Sox fan. He had a gift for gab and enjoyed the outdoors. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 4, 2017, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
