Paul Lloyd Obituary

Paul Allen Lloyd
September 23, 1957 - May 13, 2023
Tempe, Arizona - Paul Allen Lloyd passed away on May 13, 2023 surrounded by family at Chandler Regional Hospital, Chandler, AZ. He resided in Tempe, AZ since 1984. Paul was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on September 23, 1957 the first child of Wallis Lloyd and Patricia (Wold) Lloyd. His beloved wife of almost 40 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Babcock Lloyd survives him. He is also survived by his loving children, Matthew of San Diego, California and Samantha (Wes) Neal of Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are his Mother Patricia Lloyd of State College, his sister Sharon (Marc) Evans, and his brother Kevin (Rose) Lloyd. His brother Brian (Karen) preceded him in death. He has many cousins, nieces and nephews that will miss him.
Paul grew up in State College, Pennsylvania taking part in many of the youth sports leagues, going to Penn State games and helping with the Arts Festival his Dad helped create. Paul graduated from State College Area High School in 1975 and enjoyed playing on the soccer teams. In 1979, Paul graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Quantitative Business Analysis and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Upon graduation, Paul was hired by Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, PA and then transferred to Marietta, PA. During this time, Paul and Dottie met not knowing their parents knew each other and they were both from State College. Paul was transferred again to Fulton, New York and newly engaged, they moved to the area. While in New York Paul applied to Intel Corporation in Santa Clara, CA., and was hired to work in the supply chain area of the semiconductor industry. In 1984 Paul and Dottie married and transferred to Chandler, Arizona where Intel has a large business presence. For the next 30 years Paul worked for Intel traveling to overseas manufacturing plants in Asia, Europe, and Central America. Dottie accompanied him on several trips.
In the Chandler and Tempe soccer community Paul was known to be a patient and competitive youth soccer coach. He was the President of the Tempe Soccer Club which prospered during his tenure. Both Matthew and Samantha benefitted from the clubs success including trips to Europe to compete against youth teams there.
The friends Paul and Dottie met over the next 40 years are numerous. The many parties, barbecues, bike trips, guys dinners and travel adventures created a tapestry vivid and beautiful. Some of the fondest memories were with family and friends in San Diego and Hawaii.
In 2012 Paul was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called Multiple System Atrophy. His tenacity and will to live was a marvel to his family and friends.
A tribute to Paul's life will be on Monday June 5th at 10:00 AM at the Arizona Grand Resort.

Paul and I, in our early years at Intel, had the most wonderful adventure to the Far East. It was 1984. I believe it was both Paul and my first international business trip. I was a brand new manager in Tim Lloyd´s Assembly Test Planning organization and I was Paul´s first manager at Intel. We had a great time. Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Talking about fun. We felt and were treated like kings. Don´t worry Tim, we actually did some work. Paul had a great career at Intel. I will miss those days and my association with Paul. My wife Robin and I had so much fun with Dottie and Paul. Till we meet again Paul.

From one of the neighborhood kids on Orlando Ave,
My prayers for comfort and peace for Pat, Sharon, Kevin, Dottie, Karen, and all the kids and cousins. We had a pretty magical childhood, which sometimes seems like it was only yesterday. All my love...

My sincerest condolences for your loss. I am so grateful to have reconnected with my elementary school best friend Dottie, several years ago. Her love, strength and positive attitude about caring for Paul were impressive and inspirational. May love and light surround you during this difficult time.

So very sorry to hear about Paul's passing. I was unaware of his illness since I left Intel in 2009. Paul and I started working together sometime in the mid-1980s until I retired in 2009. He was a great guy, mentor and coworker. My condolences to all the family.

I am very sorry to hear that Paul passed away. My thought and prayers and with him and his family. I have always enjoyed interacting with Paul, mostly through soccer related activities. I am forever grateful for an elementary school Paul suggesting to me that I should join his Biddy League soccer team. That sent me down a soccer path that I enjoy to this day. I enjoyed playing soccer with him all thoughout those young years. I still remember sending long balls up the line where he would outrace anyone. I will miss him.
