Robert Weaver Obituary

Robert Palmer Weaver, MD F.A.C.S.
August 10, 1927 - April 19, 2021
State College, Pennsylvania - On April 19th, 2021, Dr. Robert Palmer Weaver, 93, (affectionally nicknamed "Doc") passed away after a long life and a brief illness. Born August 10th, 1927 in State College, PA, Robert was the son of Palmer Calvin (Dean Emeritus of Education at Penn State) and Anna Hibbs and the brother to Jane Turner. After graduating from State College Area High School, Robert served two years in the US Navy V-S Flight Program from 1945-1947. He then began his study at the University of Pennsylvania but completed his BS degree at Penn State University. He then received a MD from Temple University, interned at the University of Pittsburgh and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Institute.
Robert established a practice on Central Park South in NYC, where he met his first wife, Nancy Kengeter. Robert and Nancy then moved to Locust Valley, NY and had two daughters, Debbie and Donna. He was a renowned surgeon at both North Shore Hospital in Glen Cove and the NY Eye and Ear Institute, while also expanding his private practice.
He remarried in 1972 to Diana Tower and had two more daughters, Diana (Hall) and Dana (Fonash). Robert and Diana were active members of The Creek Club and Beaver Dam in Locust Valley.
In 1986, Robert retired and moved his youngest daughters back to his hometown of State College, PA. There he served as a member of the State College Board of Health (2002-2009), serving as Chair from 2007-2009. He was also an active member of the Penn State Tennis club. An avid PSU fan, Robert lived for football Saturdays. It was a sure bet that you would find him parked on his couch ready for gameday with a Coca-Cola in hand.
Soft-spoken and incredibly witty, Robert was gifted with an amazing sense of humor. One of his favorite holidays was April Fool's Day. He was devoted to his family and appreciated all the care and attention that surrounded him.
Along with his four daughters, Robert is survived by three stepchildren, Ned Neiley, Tom Neiley, and Bryan McMillen and four grandchildren, Nina Fonash, Alec Fonash, Brayden Hall and Logan Hall. Predeceased by stepdaughter, Shelley McMillen.
A service will be held at the Centre County Memorial Park at 2pm on Friday, April 30th. A reception to follow at ReFarm Café.
Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guestbook may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com.

I was shocked to see this. I helped take care of Doc while he was at Brookline/ Juniper. He always liked to joke, make you laugh. He had a heart of gold, no matter how mischievous. He would invite his table mates and whoever was interested, as many as he could fit in, to his room, to watch a Penn State game. You will be missed Doc Weaver. May you now no longer be in pain and continue to sprinkle your humor. Prayers for your daughters and families. ~Jackie

So sorry to hear about your dad. I remember him and Dee and Dana from when I delivered the mail.
