Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - Samuel "Sam" M. Rice, III, 49, of Bellefonte, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 22, 2021. Born on October 30, 1971 in Lewistown, he was the son of Samuel M. Rice, Jr., and Linda (Wise) Rice, who are both surviving in McClure and Lewistown, respectively. On February 11, 1997, he married the love of his life, Bridget (McGuire) Rice, who survives him at home after sharing over 24 years of marriage together.
Sam was a 1990 graduate of Lewistown Area High School. He served in the U.S. Army Corps. 182nd Airborne.
In addition to his wife, Bridget, and parents, he is survived by his two children: Annelise, of Miami, Florida, and Wyldon, of Bellefonte. Also surviving are two sisters, Linda Moyer, of McClure, and Samantha Rice, of Hobart, Indiana.
He enjoyed gardening and canning with his wife at their home. He loved to cook and bake and took great pride in being able to use what they were able to can to create wonderful meals and lasting memories that his family will forever cherish. Sam also loved his furry canine companions over the years, but most of all, he treasured the time that he spent with his family. That was always the most important thing to him.
There will be a public viewing held on Monday, March 1, 2021, from 1-2 pm, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral Service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2pm with David Dimmick officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Following CDC recommendations, social distancing is encouraged, and face coverings will be required at all services.
