Charles Roger Lee Warfield, affectionately known as "Rog" who left this world on July 16, 2025, at the age of 71 at Shelbyville Healthcare & Senior Living, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 12, 1953, in Metropolis, Illinois, he was the beloved son of the late George Thomas Warfield Sr. and Jesse Pauline (Ledsinger) Warfield. A proud graduate and athlete of Stephen Decatur High School, class of 1971, Rog went on to pursue further education at Springfield College of Illinois. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to the plumbing and pipefitting profession as a valued member of Local 65 in Decatur, IL. Known for his skill and commitment, he earned the respect of both colleagues and clients alike.
Rog was a man of many passions. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bike riding and had a love for movies, with favorites including "Secretariat," "Mr. Church," and "The Preacher's Wife." His love of music filled his life with joy, and he was often seen as the "Mr. Fix It" of his family and friends, always ready to lend a hand with carpentry and home projects.
As a member of St. Peter's AME Church, Rog found strength and community in his faith.
He cherished his family deeply and is survived by his loving wife, Mattie (Palmer) Warfield, children: Casey Lynette Palmer, Palmer Charles-Justin Warfield, Markie Raye Warfield, Ashlee Marie Warfield, and Courtnee E. Warfield. He also leaves behind his brother, Jesse Odell Warfield of Decatur, IL, and Larry Eugene Warfield (Eloise) of Decatur, IL, and sisters Joel Irene (Louis) Webster of Springfield, IL, Freda Raye (Chester) Parsons of Decatur, IL, Gloria Ernestine (John) Jordan of Springfield, IL, Beverly Ann Warfield of Metropolis, IL, and Jackie Sue Warfield of Springfield, IL and grandchildren, Destiny Aieyesha Palmer, Jonathan Michael Palmer, Myah Lynette Palmer, Joshua Noel Palmer, Jacobee Lee Carter, Jayda LaShay Carter and Jalen Louis Carter. Rog shared many special friendships throughout his life, notably with Mark Freeman, Mike (Mississippi) Whitehead, Thomas Green and Willie Gilmore. He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.
Preceding Rog in death were his parents, George Thomas Warfield Sr. and Jesse Pauline (Ledsinger) Warfield; his brothers; George Warfield Jr. and Lannis Warfield Sr, his sister, Charlene Warfield; his brother-in-law, Louis Webster; and his beloved nephews, Lannis Warfield Jr. and Brian "Poncho" Carney, as well as his niece, Ebony Howard.
