Aimee Anne Akers Norman
Aimee Anne Akers Norman, daughter of the Reverend John Shelley Akers, III and Sandra Alexander Akers, passed away on March 4, 2012 at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was 45.
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Aimee Anne attended the Episcopal School of Dallas and graduated from Grimsley High School and The University of the South (Sewanee) with a major in political science. She began her career as a paralegal in Dallas, Texas. For the last twelve years of her life she has served as a member of the Christ Episcopal Church staff, including the last eight years where she served as the Church's Director of Outreach and Missions. During that time she helped to champion the causes of the homeless in and around Charlotte and was recently recognized as one of Charlotte's Unsung Heroes by the Charlotte Observer.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband of 21 years, John Anderson Norman, II; two daughters, Alexandra Elizabeth Norman and Katherine Anne Norman; two brothers, John Hines Akers (Keisha Akers) and their children Owen, Olivia, Harrison and Hines and Alexander Hardin Akers. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard Alexander, Jr., Aimee Hines Alexander, Ann Hardin Akers, and John Shelley Akers, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road. A private burial will be held for family members prior to the service. The family will receive guests in the church's All Saints Hall following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Urban Ministry Center, 945 North College Street, Charlotte, NC 28206. Contributions may also be made to the Norman Children Education Fund and mailed to Park Sterling Bank, Attn: Ms. Eartha Frederick, PO Box 32727, Charlotte, NC 28232.
