Amelia English Obituary

Amelia Hildreth Hannah "Midge" English

October 11, 1931 - January 20, 2025

Laurinburg, North Carolina - Amelia Hildreth Hannah "Midge" English, 93, gained her wings on the evening of Monday, January 20, 2025 surrounded by dedicated love as she breathed her last.

Born October 11, 1931 in Anson County, she was a daughter of the late Thurston W. and Margaret Brower Hildreth. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Winson A. Hannah and Horace L. English; her grandson, Michael A. McDougald; great grandson, Christopher Hankins; brother, Jack Hildreth; and sister, Margaret H. Yokley.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn H. McDougald (Beacham) of Laurinburg; granddaughter, Hannah M. McWilliams (Landon) of Wilmington; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Amelia McDougald of Laurinburg; and a special "son," Philip E. Quick of McColl, SC; sister, Tobitha Deese of Charlotte.

She enjoyed having her family and friends gather around her table of delicious home cooked meals. Nearly everyone left with a take-home plate - if there happened to be any leftovers.

Midge lovingly touched so many as a Registered Nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital, as an active member of the First United Methodist Church, later as a member of Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, and as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend - not only to those long term friends, but to those that she met as a resident at Scotia Village.

A memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, 15301 McFarland Rd., Laurinburg, NC 28352, Scotland Regional Hospice, 610 Lauchwood Rd., Laurinburg, NC 28352, or the Scotland County Humane Society, 1401 West Boulevard, Laurinburg, NC 28352.

The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com.
