Barbara Lambdin Knie
Mrs. Barbara Lambdin Knie of Charlotte died on October 19, 2006 at the home of her daughter. She was born on July 4, 1924 in New London, Connecticut, daughter of the late Allen Bennett and Hazel Tucker Lambdin. Mrs. Knie was educated in Connecticut at the Williams Memorial Institute for Girls and was a 1946 cum laude graduate of Coker College in Hartsville, SC. Mrs. Knie had resided in Charlotte since 1971.
For 26 years, Mrs. Knie was an Air Force wife and traveled extensively in this country and abroad, accompanying her husband on tours of duty in Germany and Japan.
Mrs. Knie was active in Charlotte as an Oratorio Singer, Guild President, and at one time a Patron of the Symphony and the Oratorio. She was a dedicated volunteer of Mercy Hospital, serving four terms of office as President of the Auxiliary. She was a writer of poetry, an avid musician, and enjoyed gardening and interior decorating.
She was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church, Charlotte, and a loyal volunteer at the Good News Shop.
Mrs. Knie is survived by three daughters: Susan Bennett of Charlotte, Barbara Holtzclaw (Cliff) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Patricia Knie of Albany, Ga.; one son: Col. John Knie (Madeleine) of Fort Bragg, NC; one sister; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great -grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Knie will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Monday, October 23, at 2 p.m. A reception at the church for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in the church's Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christ Church music department or Hospice of Albany, Ga.
