Brian Barry Obituary

Brian Barry
August 9, 1939 - May 1, 2023
Charlotte, North Carolina - William Brian Barry (August 9,1939-May1, 2023) was born in Washington, D.C. Brian was raised in New York and attended school in Forest Hills and Manhattan. From an early age, he was immersed in the Forest Hills Community Center where he played basketball and developed friendships that lasted his lifetime.
After High school, Brian joined the Air Force and later attended Southern Illinois University, where he played college basketball. After college, he moved back to New York City where he met our beautiful late mother, Karen Hattum.
In 1972, our family moved to Charlotte, NC where Brian helped start Container Corporation of Carolina. After retiring he continued to enjoy life with our wonderful late stepmother, Judy Harrison Barry, family, and his many, many friends.
Brian is survived by his daughters, Donna Sampanes (Jim Sampanes), Christine Barry (Scooter Abrams), Kelly Barry and Lisa Freeman (Doug Rose) and his stepson, Mark Robinson. In addition, he is survived by his stepchildren Mark (Lisa Hartman) and Nikki Hartman; his many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and his sister, Jane Dolan and many nieces and nephews.
Brian was a kind man with a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party. He never met a stranger and he always made time for people. Everyone felt seen and heard in his presence. His life was full of meaning and love.
Dad (Aka Brian, Bri Bri and BB) will be dearly missed by all.

Brian and Judy were our neighbors in Uptown Charlotte when we lived in the same condominium complex. I´m grateful to have gotten to know them as friends. Brian and I were involved in several HOA initiatives; he was always polite, courteous, professional, and hilarious. The world, especially Charlotte, is a better place because of him. He´ll be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Brian was a special human being, indeed. Brian and Judy were neighbors of ours when we lived Uptown. He was always very kind and funny. I always looked forward to crossing paths with him around the building. In fact, a few of us were speaking fondly of him the other night and that's how we came across this beautiful obituary. Friends and family, please know that his wonderful spirit and memory live on.

Brian was a special pal. Yes, our families did a lot of partying together, and Brian and I played tennis at Carmel CC. He was always very thoughtful, dearly loved his family, and is on top of my personal list as a really great guy. May God bless you, Pal. Dick Tomlinson
