Charles Cook Obituary

Charles Junius Cook passed away on April 10, 2018 in his home in Charlotte.

He was born on January 7, 1951 in Statesville, NC to Margaret Christy Cook and Ross Wilson Cook and grew up in Amity Hill, NC. Mr. Cook was a professional civil engineer and registered Land Surveyor in the Charlotte area for over 40 years. He loved his family and devoted much of his time and energy to them, from beach and lake adventures to celebrations and weekend gatherings. His most cherished activity, however, was to simply sit around the table and laugh with his family and close friends. He also enjoyed his golf.

Charles Cook graduated from South Iredell High School in 1968, attended Catawba Valley Community College from 1968-1970, and graduated from UNC Charlotte in 1973.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Machen Cook of Charlotte, NC and two children, Ava Marell Paullins and husband Austin William Paullins of Mooresville, NC and Andrew Ross Cook of Maryville, TN. His surviving family includes his mother of 102 years, Margaret Christy Cook, one sister, Shirley Cook Heintz, one brother, Ronald Ross Cook, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Dilworth United Methodist Church at 605 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC. Visitation will precede the service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Langford Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Urban Ministry Center at 945 North College Street, Charlotte, NC 28206.

Charles was a wonderful husband to my cousin Gwen Machen Cook. We all hope for our extended family members to marry well with a partner who complements them. And together they can raise a family and live productive and meaningful lives.

Charles was just such a life partner for a special cousin of mine to which I am most grateful. I speak for all the cousins when I say we miss Charles's gentle and kind nature and his protection and care for our precious cousin. Our hope is in our sweet "Family" reunion in Heaven someday soon. In Christ's love! Cuz Bobby
