Summerville, South Carolina - David Holt Finison, 75, of Sunset Beach, NC, ended his battle with dementia at Low Country Hospice House in Summerville, South Carolina on Saturday, August 13, 2022.
David was born in Raleigh, NC on December 5, 1946. David spent much of his childhood in Charlotte. He then lived with his uncle, Mike Hamden, in Cheraw, SC where he graduated from Cheraw High School. He attended Clemson University and then was arguably the most loyal and dedicated Clemson football fan ever for the duration of his life, never missing a game on tv or at "Death Valley". David was also an avid hunter and fisherman, loved boating and golf and was a master furniture craftsman. David was known across the Carolinas by many doctors and hospitals for his warm smile and friendly demeanor when he called on them selling medical supplies throughout his career. David was an active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and most recently at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sunset Beach, where he was a deacon and Juddie plays in the Bell Choir. He had great pride and love for his family â€" in his later years was affectionately known as "PopPop".
David is survived by his wife, Juddie Penegar Finison; daughters, Emily Finison Zuyus (Joe) and Leah Anne Tellez (Robert); sister, Sue Finison Burnett; nephew, Jason Finison (Claudia); granddaughters, Mollie Zuyus and Ava Zuyus; stepdaughters, Ramsey Penegar Reid (Chris) and Amanda S. Penegar; step-grandchildren: Chloe and Justice Reid, Bryson and Hayden Sellers and Sarah Penegar. He is also survived by his cousins and the many, many friends he made throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Fred Finison and Emily Sue Gaddy Finison, and his brother, William (Bill) Fred Finison Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 8820 Old Georgetown Rd SW, Sunset Beach, NC 28468. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/) or Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church.
