David Seawright Obituary

David Seawright

November 27, 1942 - April 19, 2025

Winston-Salem, North Carolina - David Stephen "Steve" Seawright passed away on April 19th, 2025 with his family and friends holding him in love. He is survived by Sally, his wife of 58 years, his daughters Stacy Dobbs and Lindsay Peral, sons-in-law Tom Dobbs and Ricardo Peral, and grandchildren Sara, Hannah, Julia, David, and Victor.

Born in Charlotte, NC in 1942 to Mabel Farmer and Claude Seawright, Steve was the eldest of two children (sister Anne Seawright). A proud graduate of NC State and Harvard Business School, Steve served in the U.S. Army at the Pentagon before leading his own branch of Clark Construction-Seawright Corporation. He was a pioneer in green building and sustainability, and as President of the Homebuilders Association of Maryland, championed energy-efficient housing.

A lifelong Presbyterian, Steve served as a deacon, supported church music ministry, and cared for its elder members. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, First Tee, and coached youth soccer for many years. Steve was also a gifted musician and passionate French horn player, performing with church and community orchestras throughout his life.

Music was more than a hobby for him-it was a lifelong source of joy, comfort, and expression.

Above all, Steve was devoted to his family-his beloved wife, daughters, and five grandchildren. His legacy of hard work, devotion, and service to others lives on in all who knew and loved him.

We always enjoyed Steve's smiling face and congenial attitude --- the kind of guy you would think did not have a bad bone in his body --- he treasured all family but especially Sally --- it was impressive to see how he cared for her

Mr. Seawright was a amazing husband, friend, and person. I love the way he always smiled and was very polite. The way he showed love for people and especially his wife Sally. He was a great example of unconditional love and support. He always made sure people were ok and if they had a bad day he would always check on them. It was a honor to have known him and we at BrookRidge really enjoyed him and wife and family. It was a pleasure to see a standard of family and love blessings to the family

Loved hearing Steve playing his French horn with my trumpet at Myers Park Senior High concert band and Orchestra. Played basketball with him 7 thru 12 grade. Don Woodside. [email protected]. BTW his wife Sally defeated me politically when I was president Myers Park 8th grade trying to continue as president of 9th grade. SALLY WON.
