To you and your lovely family Dave - I'll never forget you inviting me to your home on 9/11. You allowed me to share your lovely family's presence (Maria, Sydney, Lola and Olivia) at your beautiful home on that dark historical day while I was stranded thousands of miles away from mine. I met David at a Bank of America conference in 2003. He reached out to me and inspired me as an up and coming black professional to reach for the stars. I cannot tell you how shocked I was to learn of his passing. May God bless the entire Stephens family. He will truly be missed.

It seems that my initial guestbook passage I entered back in September 2005 did not get processed, perhaps for technical reasons. I just want to offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Bro. David Stevens. I briefly made his acquaintance as a fellow brother of Alpha in the early 90's and primarily through his beloved brother Byron who held great visible love and pride in David. His reputation for fitness and thorough execution of business endeavors preceded him.

Please take comfort in knowing that David's work on earth was surely of the Lord, in whom he glorified and followed faithfully.

Byron, my friend and brother. Know that my prayers and heart are with you for support and comfort.

With the love of Jesus,

I cannot begin to say how sorry I am to hear of David's death. Dave and I were best friends our senior year at Windsor Forest in 1986. We played baseball and football together. I made many trips to his home and Cloverdale and played pool with Dave and all our buds. We were the best of friends.

We lost touch for over 15 years, and just recently had reunited and had kept in touch regularly. If there is anything I can do for you or the kids, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Love ya, Dave. I know where you are - cause you were one of the good guys.

I remember David teaching my little brother how to play Chess. David and my father were close. He was a great influence upon me. He was very personable and the last time I talked to him he gave me a number to someone who could answer some questions for me about a career path I was curious about. I will miss him dearly, and I will honor his legacy by being an asset to my community. We love you Dave.

Dear Family and Friends,

I met Dave a few years ago in Pinehurst, NC during our annual Tuskeegee/Pinehurst Invitational. During our first competitive rounds, Dave gave me a thumpin'. He actually inspired me to improve my golf game. Finally this year, i returned the thumpin' favor. We argued, talked trash, and tried to beat eachothers brains in on the golf course but in the end, we shared conversation, cigars and coctails. Dave was a great competitor and even greater friend, he will be sorely missed by everone that knew him. My heart goes out to you (family and friends), Love you Dave!!!

David, "my friend”...

I have known you since 7 grade. I really don’t know where to begin, except to say, "I would’ve, could’ve, should’ve, if, or had I maybe kept in touch more, I would have less regrets with our friendship…" As the saying goes, “LIFE is what happens while you are busy making plans”

After H.S. who knew we would "grow up" and become exactly who we said we would? Even then you were always full of determination…

No words come to mind to express my deepest sympathies for your family in this time of bereavement~David, you will be greatly missed~

To the Stephens family,

May your cherished memories give comfort in your time of loss…

Dear Family and Friends

I met Dave several years ago at the Pinehurst Invitational in NC, an annual golf tournament sponsored by graduates from Tuskegee University. Dave was an awesome golfer; in fact he won the tournament that year. He inspired me to be the golfer I am today. He hadn’t participated in the tournament for a couple of years, but finally returned this past summer. I had the privilege of playing in his foursome before the final round. At that time the tournament was still anyone’s to win. Dave wasn’t playing as well as he would have liked, but he still encouraged me to play my best. The tournament is a real competitive event, so being the only player from the West Coast. I really appreciated his support and encouragement. I went on to win the tournament, which was a direct result of his encouragement. Dave was a scholar and a gentleman. It was my pleasure to have known him; he will be dearly missed.

To the parents, you have my deepest sympathy and regrets for your lost. No parent should have to bury their children’s.

Stephens family,

I had the pleasure of knowing David for many years. Those years are filled with fond memories of his pleasant demeanor and wonderful spirit. I am proud to have been a member of the "C" wing crew at W.F.H.S., with him. I will never forget that green Chevette that he was so proud of. I'm proud of the life he lived, his reverence for God and his family. May God strengthen and sustain you, during your time of bereavement.

Sincerely,

Dave, the first time I saw you was in MN. You were interviewing for the Industry Manager Gig. Soon after we played our first and only game of chess on my PDA in the van on the way back to the hotel. I gave you the nickname "Prime Time" after peepn out your executive office with a view. Remeber this shot with the Honeywell posse in Phoenix, April 2001? I was at your house on 9/11. We watched on the tv in the basement as the smaller WTC buildings collapsed. You were there for me when I lost my mother, and then my brother in 2004. We fellowshipped in Christ Jesus, a two man Service. The last time we spoke was on your birthday this year. I'm truly heartbroken. The heartbreak is only temporary because this is not the end. We will spend an eternity together with Jesus, following this brief separation. My wife & I send our deepest prayers to Nikki & the girls. Never forget; "And we know that God causes all thing to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His glory"(Romans 8:28 NASB).

My Dearest Nikki,

After I left FAMU, I followed your life and accomplishments through your big sister Miriam and consider you my little sister. I rejoiced when you met and married the man of your dreams. I prayed that you would soon get out of cold Minneapolis, and when the babies started arriving, the pictures were and are proudly displayed as if they were my own nieces. You are blessed with beautiful memories and a loving family. Your grief, no doubt, is great, but God's love will help you to heal in time. My prayers are with you and the babies through this time and if there is anything I can do to help - even if it's a call in the middle of the night - please do not hesitate to pick up the phone.

Stephens & Townsend Family:

We were all elated Nikki when you met the man of your dreams. Prior to your wedding you shared David's video tape proposal & boy did we all shed tears of joy! For the ten years of your marriage we witnessed & appreciated David's unselfish love and commitment to his family & great passion for life! No matter our walk of life, David ALWAYS embraced us as family. His Legacy has "fully impacted" our lives & we especially thank you Mr. & Mrs. Stephens for the gift of David. Nikki, God's grace was surely upon you as you stood courageously & spoke lovingly about David during the service.

Nikki -

The 18+ yr friendship Dave shared with Ben resulted in them experiencing many of lifes cherished moments together. In the seven years that I've known him he became my friend and brother, and you my sister. It was a joy to have him visit us when he was in town on business, as recently as two weeks ago, because he knew he was at 'home'. Dave left us too early but with so much and we will be blessed by his lessons. He set the example for being a husband, father, son, friend and a child of God. As you know, we are family and this relationship will only grow stronger - Dave knew that. Ben was chosen as godfather of Sydney but we consider all the girls 'ours'. We love you all, Dave loves you and we are here for you!!

But above all the memory of David and God's promise that we all, especially Mrs. Stephens (Dave's mom), Maria, Sydney, Lola and Olivia, will be blessed and comforted. I met David this time of year when I was a Senior in High School 18 years ago and he was a Campus Ombudsman. His presence and character spoke volumes even as a budding college student. Later, he was gracious enough to escort me to my Senior prom and certainly motivated me to broaden my horizon as I attended Tuskegee the following Fall. Being the gentleman that he was then and continued to be throughout his life will make the fond memories last beyond infinity. I am greatful for the opportunity to share my thoughts and deepest sympathy with a family whom I know God will be more than able to soothe as you continue to seek him for guidance, deliverance and understanding.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Ephesians 6:10

God Bless.

Dave,

I’m glad our paths crossed in life. I’m glad the Lord sent you and your family to Minnesota. Your stay here allow a chance for my wife your wife to reconnect and for us to meet and establish a friendship. In your short time I enjoyed the opportunities we had to fellowship, celebrate family events, and create a golf club that is still going strong today.

I know one of your passions after your family was golf, and just the other month, because of your caring and loving nature for the people you have met on your journey you called to check on us to make sure we were doing ok.

Dave you sir, will be truly missed!

Upon hearing about your untimely passing our golf league dedicated the round to you and we started it off with a “Press” for Dave!....(:-)

We now know that your work here was done. God has another assignment for you now, so well done thy good and faithful servant!

Nikki our deepest sympathy is with you, Sydney, Lola, and Olivia. You have been blessed with three beautiful girls and you are an awesome mom! Don’t change; continue to keep God first in your life! We will keep you and the girls in our prayers. And thanks to you and Dave for my birth date buddy Lola…(:-)

If you need anything, we are here for you and the girls.

God will never give you more than you can handle…and remember

Death is not a period---it’s only a comma. AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

Prayerfully,

Koko & Phaedra (BA Spr. ’93)

Dave,

I will miss teeing it up with you. You were a true gentleman and competitor.

But most of all, I will remember how much you loved you wife and daughters. I never spent time with you and you didn't mention them. We you always greeted me by asking me how my family was doing. This showed me how important family was in your life.

Please know that your family is now drawing strength from their relationship and experiences with you.

God bless.

On behalf of the VSTH Group LLC, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Stephens family.

For those of you who never saw David in the daily grind of Corporate America, be it known that he is on a very short list of the most dynamic and progressive individuals we've met. We knew him for less than a year, but he made a LASTING, positive impression.

We will all miss him dearly.
