David Suddreth Obituary

David Caldwell Suddreth YORK - David Caldwell Suddreth, 81, of York, SC, died June 1, 2018 at home. David was born November 20, 1936 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Guy E. Suddreth, Sr. and Catherine Harris Suddreth. He was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte. He was president and chief brick layer for Suddreth Masonry for most of his career. Later in life, he served the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department. David also worked infield security at Charlotte Motor Speedway since its inception in 1960. David's legacy is one of service. During World War II, when troops left Charlotte in railroad cars near his father's grocery store, he watched his dad hand out bottles of Coca-Cola and candy. His heart for sharing continued throughout his life. Whether it was doughnuts, sodas, pocket-sized race cars or other goodies, David was always giving to others. Since the 1960s, David was instrumental in staging Charlotte's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He served in the National Guard for 42 years and Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a Mason and a Shriner. For the past four years, David volunteered with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the Billy Graham Library. David was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife, June, sons David (wife, Annabelle), Randy (wife, Nancy) and Chris (wife, Shannon), all of Charlotte, and step-children Stacia Beach (husband, John) of Hagerstown, MD and Jeff Smith (wife, Lisa) of Lynchburg, VA. Grandchildren: Carly Morris (husband, Josh) of Rock Hill, SC, Katie Suddreth of Fort Mill, SC, Daniel Suddreth of Gastonia, NC, Joshua Suddreth of Charlotte, NC, Amanda Rhyne of Hagerstown, MD, Jeffrey Smith and Philip Smith of Lynchburg, VA. Great granddaughter: Abigail Cait Morris of Rock Hill, SC. Brothers: Frank Suddreth (wife, Sara) and Richard Suddreth (wife, Brenda). Preceding him in death are his oldest brother, Everett Suddreth (wife, Trudy) and the mother of his children, Carolyn Mullis Suddreth. A celebration of David's life will be held Tuesday, June 5 at 2:00pm at Good Shepherd Church, 13110 Moss Road, Charlotte, NC 28273. Visitation and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Burundi Youth for Christ (Burundiyfc.org), Billy Graham Library (Billygrahamlibrary.org) or the charity of donor's choice.

My condolences to the entire Suddreth family. I met Mr. Suddreth back when I served on the Thanksgiving Day Parade Board. I remember my first Thanksgiving Day Parade, with David giving me a Bojangle's biscuit and 2 KK Doughnuts!! I've met a lot of friendly people over my years, but David was at the top of my list. He was tireless, hard working and easy to talk to. You could tell the Parade meant a lot to him and the entire Suddreth family. I'm glad he took the time to show and tell me the real meaning of Thanks giving. Giving to others was his life's calling. God Bless!

To the Suddreth Family-We share in your loss-
what a beautiful man!
We met David and June at Good Shepard United Methodist Church Zoar Campus-
we had our daughters family and grand kids at church- David came over, introduced himself to Emma (3) and Maddox (7) and they both immediately hugged and kissed him-David reached into his pocket and gave each of them a NASCAR car-he did that every Sunday- They were always so excited to see him-as were we!
Every day our daughter has to pick up the cars as the kids play with them every day-
What a beautiful man and family-God Bless all of you-

Love,
Mike and Sandy Masterman

David was certainly a gentleman and a wonderful mentor. Certainly he is greatly missed by many many people in the Charlotte area. God Speed my friend...

I met David in March he pulled up beside my police car and just began talking. One of the nicest people I ever met. He offered my son a summer job and race tickets first time I ever met him. He called me on 3/27/2018 and left a voice mail. I didn't receive answer when I called back. Then I discovered he was married to my cousin years ago. He knew so much about my family and Charlotte Heritage. It was my joy to have met him. He really brightened my day. The family has my deepest sympathy. I even bragged to my son when I met him how I had met such a humble nice man at work today.

June,
I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. He was truly a great man. He gave me an opportunity to volunteer for security at the Charlotte Motor Speedway a couple years ago, while that may be little to some it was a great day for me. I remember how much he enjoyed being there. My family and I are keeping you and your family in our prayers!

How delightful the canvas of David & June. It just continues... to blossom in a panoramic view. All the more between tears... for us to delight in. Nurturing love continues to flow; as we long to console, his bride, a woman of valor and their devoted family. You are an amazing woman June Bug. May the mercies and grace of God continue to fortify your spiritual souls. May the amazing love of Christ and many blessings of the Father continue to manifest throughout the days ahead. How grateful to share the path(s) that you continue to create with His indwelling love. Precious hugs to your furry babies Oreo, Gracie & GrayBoy. The Peace of God be unto thee.
Shalom.

So so sorry for your loss, June and family. David was so sweet to us and so funny. He always greeted us with a smile and was so joyful. He gave us a little blue race car to our 2 month old son a couple of weeks before our son unexpectedly passed away last yr. I have held onto that car dearly with other things as reminders of Roark. You two have always been so nice and giving. What a beautiful couple and example of Christ's love. So thankful to know you and share an anniversary with you. We are here for you and will check on you. We love you ❤

David worked for us at the speedway since it began in 1960 and he was one of the best, if not THE best, security personnel we had. He loved people, could do most anything from lay bricks to teach folks about how to do different things. Only one David comes along in a lifetime and I will cherish the time I spent with him

He would bring us fruit and soda and leave with a full truck and a full heart, knowing how many more people he could give things to. And hee never left without giving me a great big hug. I am Blessed to have known him and I pray for Peace for his entire family whom he spoke so highly of, so frequently. I feel sure his legacy will live on forever. See you again some day, Big Dave.

For almost 31 years now this wonderful man has made every dream I had come true. He loved me and no matter what I looked like, sweaty from gardening, or dressed to go out he always told me I was pretty. He was the love of my life and I am trusting in the Lord to walk me through this season of my life. I can't see into the future without him, I know on the other side there are rainbows after the storm. I am waiting for the rainbows. I love you David Suddreth with a love that will never end. Tell Jesus to save me a place beside you. Soar with angels and walk with Jesus my love.
