This tribute is to my Dad. He was an amazing friend who walked with me through the most difficult events in my life. He was straightforward and gave me very direct advice. Most recently he was a strong shoulder with a tender heart. I miss being able to pick up the phone and reach out to him. I wish I had much more often. Tough and tender, he was a great Dad. -Tee

Mrs. Vaughn, the early 60's along Ocean Drive, Cherry Grove, NMB, were special times for the youth that worked and shared their lives during the summers. Friendships were formed that lasted from summer to summer and memories were made that only become more vivid and important with each passing decade.
I've read the entries and they all knew him I guess better than I...but my memories are still there of his easy laugh, quick smile, and friendly brotherly hugs. (I was a bit younger) I lived to "dance"...and since I learned from a boy..I dance lead on the boy's foot..so it was difficult to get many to dance with me. David would always take my hand and say...come on "boney"...let's show'em how this dance is done!
May your love story and years of memories keep David's best alive in your heart to comfort you and your family.
With God's Blessings

Jenny

I was so sad to hear of David's passing. While my own interactions with him were too limited in numbers, I know my mom adored him and he was my brother's best friend. His loyalty and faithfulness as a fishing buddy and friend to Walt allowed me to feel more secure in not being close to home. I know that everyone who knew him feels a great loss but I recognize we are all richer for having known him. There are no words that I possess to heal the hurt, but I pray that with time your sadness is overcome with smiles and laughter as you remeber all of ya'lls wonderful times together.
My prayers and deepest sympathy are with you and your family.
Love,

Buck

Dearest Carolyn, I was so deeply saddened today in learning about your terrible loss of a damn great guy, your beloved husband "David". He was my "ole buddy" for the better part of 50 years and my heart pours out to you, the children, grand children and great grand children with love and sympathy on this day, for I know y'all will miss him. He coached me in the Red Cross swimming class at the old Helms motel in Ocean Drive for my certification to be a life guard in the summer of 1960 and of course there were many more points of interest and fun we cannot discuss here. One of the fondest memories I have about David is when my momma (then city clerk of Ocean Drive) ask me "why can you not be like David Vaughn, he is so kind, polite and respectful.... I told David about the incident one day and his reply was "I can't argue with that cause your momma knows best". I will miss my ole friend very much, but I'll see him again.

Carolyn and family may God Bless and keep you safe and bring peace to you.

Love and friendship always,

Leland (Nini) Stanley
