We just learned of Ed's passing. We first met Ed when he stopped by our house 4 years ago for a yard sale. We saw him often walking Stanley in Sardis Cove, but started missing him in the late Fall. Ed was a fine and gentle man. He sure loved Stanley and it showed in the pride he took in him. The entire Erb family has been through so much in the past few years and we have thought of them and prayed for them often. Our son and their's were good friends at East. We are saddened at losing Ed Sr., but know he is with his beloved wife of whom he spoke often. We are very happy to hear that Stanley is now residing with some new friends of ours the Majasko's.

Since this page was just made known to me, I will now leave a message for Ed and his family. My husband John and I met Ed and Stanley at Sardis Cove while cutting through on our bikes. We hit it off instantly, and remained good friends and dining companions for almost a year. It was cut terribly short with his passing. We love Ed dearly. So much in fact that we now have his beloved and terrific companion, Stanley. What a wonderful thing it is to love him and think of Ed and Ellen on a regular basis, knowing they are watching over us all. But, Ed missed Ellen so very much. So, we are consoled by knowing they are together. Stanley is a true blessing. We love you Ed and will miss you with all of our heart! John & Carolyn Matjasko, Blondie and Miss Kitty

I loved Ed and Ellen. My dad, Joe Edwards, managed the USF & G Charlotte branch and he and Ed were dear friends. My dad could not drive a nail in a wall so he also admired and was so grateful for all of Ed's many talents. Ellen was a sweetheart and they were good to my brothers and me in our childhood years. We, too have lost our parents since 2010. Our love and fond memories to the family. You meant the world to them.

I will miss you Ed, my dear friend. But I will think of you often. Never will I forget coming to your home and trying to get your email to work for you. Our lunches together were so much fun. Torturing waitresses was surely the best. You enjoyed your friends and we will miss your laughter and unique sense of humor. I am sure you are with your beloved wife right now. You spoke of her every time we got together. I only wish I had more time to be with you and keep you company. All in due time I suppose. God bless you and your wonderful family. Your friend and comrade. Rick

Thank You to The USSVI for a beautiful Memorial Service for my friend and neighbor, who will be missed here at Sardis Cove.
A few months ago, Ed brought me his beautiful book on the big rivers of NC. He said he couldn't think of anyone else he would rather give it to. He knew he was dying, I did not. I showed him which rivers I had kayaked and he said he wanted me to paddle on every one of them in the book !
I will paddle the NC rivers for Ed...until we meet again ! in Paradise.

On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our sincere condolences to Ed III and Max and all of Ed, Jr.'s family and friends as you mourn his passing. May God whisper peace into your hearts, comfort, and heal them. We are grateful for your Pop Pop's courageous service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service during WWII on the USS Ronquil SS-396. He was a Plankowner on the Ronquil and made five (5) War Patrols on her. We are also thankful that he was a member of the Carolina Piedmont Base, USSVI. To our “Brother of the Dolphin” we say … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."
