Harvey Grasty Obituary

Harvey Moore Grasty
February 3, 1943 - July 18, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - Harvey died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 18, 2021. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Thomas Pettus Grasty and Lucy Moore Martin. He moved with his family to Charlotte in 1950.
Harvey graduated high school from Darlington School in Rome, GA and from Wofford College, in Spartanburg, SC. Harvey started his career with Hit Attractions, booking bands at local venues highlighting his love of music. He also worked for Photo Corporation of America (PCA). His favorite job was working in logistics at Apple Computer in the 80's. Later in life he started his own business selling nautical decor and gifts online reflecting his love of the water, fishing, and boats.
Among his favorite activities were trips to the beach with his family. He enjoyed pulling his grandchildren behind the boat on an inner-tube or skis. Harvey was an avid fisherman. He had numerous boats with each one giving him greater ability to catch the big one. He and Fay enjoyed cruising the inland waterway. He also enjoyed playing golf with his golfing buddies.
He served his church as a deacon and the community by being associated with various non-profit organizations.
He is survived by his wife Fay, married 56 years, and three children and their spouses: Harvey Grasty, Jr. (Kristi), Wes Grasty (Susan), and Mary Katherine Kayler (Dayton). His grandchildren Ben, Erin, Jeanette, and Nathan Grasty, Dylan Orrell, Grace and Katherine Kayler. Also his brother Tom Grasty (Grace) and sister Lucy Grasty (Lynn McIver) and brothers-in-law Jim and Wesley Walters (Sally) and many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on July 22 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Memory & Movement Center Charlotte, 300 Billingsley Road, Suite 108, Charlotte, NC 28211, or The Ivey Memory Wellness Day Center, 6030 Park South Drive, Charlotte, NC 28211 (www.theivey.com).

I just learned of Harvey's passing. I have thought of Harvey many times over the years. I worked with Harvey at Hit back in the 60's. I was so young and Harvey was so kind. He helped me learn the business. Such a fine man. I am so very sorry for your loss. Alan Padgett, Athens, Ga.
