Jackson Scott Obituary

Dr. Jackson Vance Scott
Dr. Scott died on Saturday, September 17, 2004 at Mercy Hospital Main, following a brief but intense battle with ALS. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 3, 1932 to Margie-Mae Fletcher Scott and Mark David Scott. After Central High School, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors with a BS in Chemistry and membership in the All Ivy League Honor Society and the Math Honor Society. He worked as an Organic Chemist for Merck before earning his Medical Degree at Thomas Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia. His Internship was at Georgia Baptist, Atlanta, Georgia, then a General Practice Residency at Norfolk, General Hospital, following which he began his Family Practice in Mount Holly, NC on July 1, 1962.
Over the ensuing 42 years, 'Doc,' as he was affectionately called, delivered over a thousand babies (a part of his practice which he truly loved.) He loved his patients and that love flowed back to him even spilling over to his family, who usually understood the interrupted plans that families of dedicated physicians experience. In recent years he talked of retiring but could never quite fix a date.
It was apparent to the family that his 42 years of treating patients helped him endure the pain of numerous illnesses he suffered. To cherish the memories he left and try to fulfill the dreams he had for his children and grandchildren, he leaves his beloved wife of 48 years, Jane; son Kenneth V. Scott and wife Teresa; son Craig Bennet Scott and wife Moujdeh; daughter Bonnie Jane Penna and husband Mark; and grandchildren Jennifer and Lauren Scott, Caitlin and Seth Penna and Margot Scott. Helping us keep on keeping on will be our cherished friend and right-hand Gladys Moore.
The family will receive friends at Carothers Funeral Home on South Main Street in Mount Holly, from 6:00 to 8:00 Sunday night in the chapel. The funeral will be at 1:00 PM Monday, September 20, 2004 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Road, Charlotte, NC. Reverend Gary Bryant officiating.
The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Scott Kremers for his compassionate care during the last months. Also thanks to the nursing staff on 5th floor Mercy Main who eased his suffering and helped the family through this difficult time. Thanks to all those kind people who reached out to make things easier. There are too many to name here, but you know who you are and we love you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
Condolence messages may be emailed to the family at [email protected].

My deepest regards to the passing of one of the greatest MD's ever. His caring and concern for every patient will never be forgotten. He was my childhood MD and was always ther for me my first 11yrs. It seems he was a part of my entire family as he cared for the majority of them. He will be greatly missed. The greatest comfort is to know he is in Heaven and we will rejoice with him once again.

Dr. Scott was not only a wonderful physician but a great man. No matter the time of day or night you could rest assured if you needed him he was there. Caring, giving, considerate, are just a few words that come to mind. I consider it a honor and privelage to not only call him my doctor but my friend as well.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to your family. Our family grew up (healthy) thanks to the care of a wonderful doctor and caring person. Our parents George & Hazel Fincher, brought us

many times to Mt. Holly for various illnesses and since we lived near-by in Oakdale, there were a couple of times that Dr. Scott made House

calls when we were too ill to come into the office. We felt very special. We can't express how much we admired him and how very grateful we are for the care that he gave to our family through the years.

Mom passed away in Dec. 2000 and Daddy in April of this year. If they were here, we know they would openly share their gratitude for Dr. Scott's genuine and personal care for us.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

The family of George & Hazel Fincher 1316 Plumcrest Drive Charlotte, NC 28216

(Jill, Georganna, George jr., Lisa and Bryan)

To the Scott Family: My deepest condelences for the loss of a wonderful man. Dr. Scott's treatment of my family began in 1963 with his announcement to my mother, Frances Brittain Secrest, of my inpending birth. On January 28, 1964, Dr. Scott delivered me, as he would like to say, kicking and screaming, into this world. He, thereafter, delivered my sister in 1965 and my brother in 1967. As a child with Asthma, I was a frequent visitor to Dr. Scott's office throughout my childhood and teenage years but it was ok, cause I knew Dr. Scott would take my pain away and have me feeling better soon. As a child, I can't recall how many times my parents called Dr. Scott, after hours, only to be told that he would meet us at his office. You don't find doctors today who are as dedicated or care as much about their patients as Dr. Scott did. I remember Dr. Scott making housecalls to my grandparents home when they became to ill and frail to make it to his office. When I was 8 - 10 years old, Cookie gave me a puppy which I proudly named "Scotty" after my favorite doctor. While Dr. Scott laughed at the idea of a puppy named for him, Cookie really got a hoot out of it. While I have many memories of Dr. Scott and his staff, my favorite memory pertains to the happiest day of my lift, Saturday, June 5, 1982, my wedding day. Dr. Scott was the last person I expected to see on that date yet there he was. I spoke with him on that date and took a minute to express my gratitude for his attending my wedding, however, I don't think that he could ever know just how much his being there actually meant to me. That he would take the time from his schedule, on a Saturday at that, to attend my wedding was just something that I never expected. For 40 plus years, Dr. Scott was a tremoudous asset to the residents of Mt. Holly and surrounding communities and he will be missed. When I think of Dr. Scott, I'll remember him for his kindness and compassion toward others and for his dedication to his profession.

I am a disability attorney who has worked with Dr. Scott for many, many years, helping workers get their benefits. My entire office staff and I are deeply saddened by Dr. Scott's death. He was a fine doctor; one his patients' loved. He always told them he would do what he could for them as far as getting their insurance, or medicaid or disability, and he ALWAYS stood by his word, filling out forms and writing letters. Every one of the hundreds of patients of his that have come through my office spoke of his warmth, his caring, the time he took with them and his sense of humor. He helped many, many patients get their deserved disability benefits and he did not charge them to give his opinion. I cannot speak more highly of a doctor than I can of Dr. Scott. He will be greatly missed in this community and was truly a hero. Rachel Pickard, Attorney at Law,
