James Bartlett Obituary

James "Jim" Bartlett, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, was called to be with his Savior on October 26, 2016. Jim was born on March 11, 1932 to Luther "Tom" and Detro Bartlett in Charlotte. Jim was the third of six children and was raised in the Paw Creek community. Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Cobb Bartlett, a daughter, Melanie Holland (Dan) of Charlotte, and three sons: Wyndal Bartlett (Gina) and Daniel Bartlett (Jennifer), both of Charlotte, and Johnny "Jay" Allen (Allison) of Angier. He is also survived by a brother, Luther "Junior" Bartlett (Bobbie Nell), and two sisters, Charlene Adams and Linda Holbrook (Mel). Jim has eight precious grandchildren that he loved dearly and thought the world of: Brent Benson (Brandy), Dr. Lara Napodano (Dan), Hailey and Paige Bartlett, Lucas and Olivia Bartlett, and Zachary and Jacob Allen, as well as three special great-grand children, Bryce,

Broc, and Brylee Benson. Each grandchild and great-grandchild had a special relationship with PawPaw, and they will hold him in their hearts. He is preceded in death by both parents and by his sisters, Louise Boling and husband Jack, Barbara Woodard and husband Art, and brother-in-law Stanley Adams. Jim graduated from high school later in life, as being raised in a farming community required him to work on the farm. He followed his brother to the Leaksville Woolen Mill, working there until being drafted into the Army. On several occasions he traded places with his brother at the mill during periods of reduced production so Junior could provide for his family. Upon being drafted into the Army, Jim served in Korea as a medic during the latter part of the conflict. After completing his enlistment he returned to Charlotte, graduated from high school, attended college for two years and served his community as a volunteer firefighter with Pinoca Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was employed by Sealtest Dairies,

Fruehauf Trailer Corp., and he finally retired from Joint and Clutch Auto Parts Distributors. After retirement, Jim found a spot as product auditor for Acosta Sales and Marketing. Jim worked part time and traveled a few days a week to count food products at several major food store warehouses. Jim had a profound love for Atlanta Braves baseball and NASCAR. It was rare not to see a baseball game or a race on TV during the season. During the summers, Jim and Barbara would plant and maintain their garden while raising and canning a variety of vegetables.

Gardening was a carryover from his days of living on the farm and Jim's daddy providing for the family. In later years Jim and Barbara would spend several weeks at the beach or Pigeon Forge camping. Camping was always a love for Jim and Barbara. Jim always found time to visit his grandchildren that he cherished very much. Jim lived a very full and eventful life filled with many, many fond times that will be remembered by his family and friends. His

lasting legacy will continue within those he touched and loved. Jim was a devoted Christian who loved his Lord and Savior. His love for his family, church, and church family was always evident in the assistance that he provided to less fortunate people and shut-ins. He loved Psalm 23 and Proverbs 3:5-6. In his later years, Jim returned

to his Christian upbringing by joining East Belmont Church of God. The family would like to praise and to express their gratefulness to the staffs of Carolinas Medical Center and Charlotte Health and Rehabilitation Center. The personal touch will always be remembered and cherished. A celebration of life service for Jim will take place at East Belmont Church of God, 320 Catawba St. Belmont, NC 28012 at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 30, 2016, with a visitation starting prior to the service at 1:30 PM. Interment will be held at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Dr. Charlotte, NC 28208 following the service. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made to the East Belmont Church of God Building Fund. Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.forestlawnwest.com.
