James Michael Lewis
Mr. Lewis, 25, of Charlotte died as the result of an accident in Tainan City, Taiwan where he was completing his second year in the International Management Business (IMBA) program at National Cheng Kung University. Jimmy graduated from Providence High School in 2005 and Appalachian State University in 2009.
Jimmy was born in Atlanta, GA on March 7, 1986 and moved to Charlotte in 1993. He is survived by his parents, Carol and Thomas Lewis of Charlotte; his grandmother, Thelma James of Shreveport, LA; his sister, Allison Reeves and her husband Charlie of Baton Rouge, LA; six aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held on Saturday, March 26, at 1:00 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. A reception will follow in the church's Christian Life Center.
Jimmy loved everything about the outdoors so in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Falling Creek, P.O. Box 98, Tuxedo, NC 28784 where he was a counselor; or to his home church, Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte, NC 28277.

My favorite memory of Jimmy Lewis would have to be my first ever three-day packing trip: when he was one of the backpacking counselors at Falling Creek Camp. That trip was full of laughs and memories I will always keep close to my heart. Thanks Jimmy Lewis I will miss you

My favorite memory of Jimmy was the night before his graduation at Appalachian State. Jimmy, my brother Shook and I celebrated with countless bottles of Champagne at a local bar in Boone. All through the night people were calling out to him, and stopping by to offer their congratulations. It was the kind of night you didnt want to ever end. Everyone, including me, wanted to be around him, and his larger than life personality. His spirit touched all those he came in contact with, and there are simply not enough words to describe the joy he brought to so many individuals. My thoughts are with his family, and his countless friends. Jimmy, you left quite a mark, but you left too soon.

I was a friend of Jimmy's at NCKU. What a charming, sweet young man. He always put me at ease and was a joy to be around. My heart goes out to you, his parents, family and loved ones in this hard time.

Laura and I had the pleasure of becoming friends with Jimmy at Falling Creek. I remember well, the van rides back from his hiking trips and the catch phrases that had to be said along the way. His passion for the outdoors was infectious. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone left to mourn his passing.

I was so saddened to hear about Jimmy, As a member of the Falling Creek family for over 30 years, I have gotten to know many outstanding young people. Jimmy will always stand out in my mind as one of the very best and brightest. He always had a winning smile that would brighten your day and a positive attitude. His work with children as a teacher and mentor came naturally and his leadership qualities were top notch. He was such a role model of character and values. I know he "did his family proud" in all his endeavors. God bless you all in this difficult time. Kim Bain

I worked with Jimmy at Falling Creek Camp and was part of the rescue effort when a large tree fell on a group of his campers when he was with them on a hike in Pisgah National Forest. He was not only their hero that night, but MINE, as well. We shall miss him greatly.

As his middle school track coach at Crestdale, I had the privilege of getting to work with Jimmy as he prospered athletically. Although I've coached over a decade of champion teams, Jimmy still holds the 800 meter (half mile) record. There's not a year when his name, attitude and talent aren't mentioned as an example for which others should strive.

My son, Watson Mulkey, worked with Jimmy at Falling Creek. He thought so much of Jimmy, talking about what a great person he was. They went on several overnite camping trips together. Watson was with him when the tree fell, and Jimmy did such a wonderful job rescuing the campers. I am so sorry for this terrible loss. My prayers are with you all.
