James Strawn Obituary
Ryan, 26, of Charlotte passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 in Maui, Hawaii due to injuries sustained in an accident. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sardis Presbyterian Church. His family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the interment in the church cemetery.
Ryan was born April 19, 1983 to Mike and Diane Strawn. He graduated from NW School of the Arts in 2001 and from Appalachian State University in 2006. He was an actor, a comedian, a singer, a rapper (best known as 'Mr. Don't Play'), a passionate sports fan, and the best friend that anyone could hope to have. Ryan had formerly lived in Boston and San Diego before returning to Charlotte a year ago. His life revolved around his friends and family.
Ryan is survived by, in addition to his parents, brother, Scott; sisters, Julie and Rebecca; brother-in-law, Jason Waybright; grandparents, Rachel and Norm Nelson and Nancy Dickson; and many, many lifelong friends.
The family asks that memorials in memory of Ryan be sent to Thompson Child & Family Focus, Ryan Strawn Family Fund, 6800 Saint Peter's Lane, Matthews NC 28105-8458 or KinderMourn, 1320 Harding Place, Charlotte NC 28204.
Arrangements for the Strawn Family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. Online remembrances may be shared at www.heritagefuneral.net.

To the Strawn Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear the news about Ryan. I have known Julie and Ryan since seventh grade sunday school class, and had the opportunity to get to know both of them much better during confirmation class at Sardis Presyterian Church. I remember how much fun Ryan was on the church trips and retreats. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that both Julie and Ryan were going to be attending Appalachian State with me in 2001. It seems unfair to lose a loved one at such a young age. Coping with the loss of someone so dear is very difficult. When tragedy strikes like this we cry out with great sorrow. For a short time, Ryan Strawn was a sales rep here in the IKON San Diego Office.
He passed away on Monday from injuries sustained in an accident while vacationing in Hawaii.
We would like to remember Ryan by observing a moment of silence today at noon California time followed by a prayer in our lunchroom offered by Hank Stanley.
Ryan was a happy, good guy who will be remembered by all who knew him.

Ryan was hilarious, talented and full of light! I remember him as my NWSA brother the most. Ryan was one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met. I had the great pleasure of getting to know him pretty well during our time at App State. I could count on him for anything. I had many a fun time with Ryan in Boone, Charlotte, New Jersey and wherever else. He just had a great personality in that he always was happy and upbeat. I remember taking his thigh measurement when I was doing costumes for a show. I asked him to take the wallet out of his front pocket, he very kindly said "I don't have a wallet" it was his thigh muscle. I was mortified and he did his best to ease the tension. Ryan was always the life of the party and everyone loved him; I know he will truly be missed! I know that such an untimely death is unfair and it is hard to understand why this has happened. Before I left NWSA for Vance, Ryan was in my Drama class in the room across from the black box theatre...As awkward of an age as 12 was for me, Ryan was a good buddy. To this day I laugh thinking about it, but he stood up for me when a girl in our class wouldn't give me my Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness CD back ha, he got it back. I also remember when myself, zack sigmond, and Ryan tried out for a spiderman commercial...and of course, Ryan beat us out and got it. Sad to hear about someone so young passing, and you'll be missed man.

Ryan was one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met. He will be deeply missed by all. God has gained a truly remarkable angel.

Dear Diane, Julie, Family and friends,
I am deeply sadden by the tragic news. Ryan and I knew each other threw NWSA and I have lots of wonderful memories of Ryan. Espeically the early days in 7th grade dance class. Ryan had such great character and would always have us laughing. My sympathy goes out to his friends and family.
