James Zink Obituary

James Carl Zink "Jim" CHARLOTTE - James (Jim) Carl Zink was reunited in heaven with his wife, Anne Miller Zink on March 1, 2013. He was born May 30, 1916 in Santa Monica, California, son of Otto Carl Zink and Margaret Elizabeth Mann Zink. Jim was a member of Midwood Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC for 25 years, serving as a deacon and Chairman of deacons; later he was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, and most recently Independence Hill Baptist Church. He was a lifetime Third Degree Mason, raised at Sparta Lodge, No. 70, Spartanburg, SC. Jim enlisted in the Army in September 1942; after Boot Camp he was assigned to the 3rd Army Corp and served as secretary to several generals, the most famous being General Joseph Stilwell. He was later assigned to the Quartermaster Corp at Fort Jackson and Camp Croft, SC: it was here that he met his wife Anne Miller. They were married 49 years, separated only by death. After Army service, he was employed as an Insurance Adjuster with T.M. Mayfield and Co in Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC from 1958 until he retired in 1986. He loved swimming, camping in the mountains and gardening, especially his roses. He is survived by his sons, James W. Zink and wife, Roberta, Dennis E. Zink and wife, Sheila, and daughter, Robin S. Zink and husband, James Edward Smith, including seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 4th, at Sunset Memory Gardens, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his memory to Independence Hill Baptist Church, 10220 Eastfield Road, Huntersville, NC 28078 Condolences may be offered at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.

To the Zink family ( my closest friends Sheila and Dennis) my deepest condolences. Let us always remember that death is not an end but a new beginning with an eternity of love and peace. May God continue to bless and comfort all of us while we are waiting to walk our path to glory. Love to all.

To the Zink family, I had the pleasure of meeting Jim during the time I was a trainer at Shad's Landing. Jim was one of my most absolute favorite residents. I appreciate the meals we had together and I always felt he was very special. The compassion he showed for his friend Mr Yarborough was touching. I know you will miss his quick wit and his sense of humor. Rest in peace to my friend.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Jim Zink. We so loved his visits and his wonderful stories as well as his welcomed advice. He has left such a legacy and it is so obvious that his children and grandchildren will carry that on with pride and honor. We will miss him as well, but still have such happy memories that without fail brings a great big old smile to our faces. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless and keep each one of you. Sam & Rita Powell, Lake Hickory

To all the Zink Family!
At such a time, there isn't much that anyone can say, But, as you go through life's greatest sorrow--the loss of someone you love-
may your own faith in God sustain you...
bringing you comfort today, courage for tomorrow, and hope in your heart always.
Your love one will always live in your heart as you think, and remember him.
With Deepest Sympathy and Prayers.
Together in Christ we pray...
