Jimmy Evitt

November 28, 1943 - November 30, 2023

Charlotte, North Carolina - Jimmy (Jim) Evitt, 80, died peacefully November 30, 2023, at McWhorter Hospice House, Monroe, NC.

He was born on November 28, 1943, in Florence, S.C. to Jake Claude Evitt and Anna Steen Evitt. Jim and his twin sister, Jennie, were the youngest of eleven children.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 – 1966 and was a member of VFW Post 2423 Indian Trail, N.C.

As a general contractor and owner of Evitt Construction Company, Inc. he served the Charlotte area for over 30 years. Through the love of construction, he developed strong bonds and friendships with many of his customers, sub-contractors, and suppliers.

Jim enjoyed gardening, caring for his donkeys, NASCAR, and researching his family's genealogy. Through his research, he was able to reconnect members of the Evitt lineage around the world.

He is survived by sisters, Verland Blaney of The Villages, FL, and Patsy Kisiah, of Littleton, CO, a daughter, Tiffany Evitt Johnson of Tennessee, a granddaughter Breanna Coddington of Tennessee, and a grandson Robert Kyle Leyba, of Vietnam, and his long-term companion, Linda Cummings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kerry Kay Evitt, his brothers Jake Thirrel Evitt, A. L. Evitt, and Johnny Joel Evitt, and sisters Jean Kirk, Mack Evelyn Touchberry, Vera Ann Fullington, Jo Thompson, and Jennie Hammer.

Jim will be laid to rest in a private graveside service with military honors in the McAbee, SC Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners' Hospitals for Children.

My deepest condolences and to Linda, all the family members and friends who will always miss Jim. He was always a true friend, with the purest heart of gold and concern that "I was alright."

The only problem I had with Jim is that I did not get to know him 40 Years earlier.

We will see you later, Jimbo.

Have the Mustard & Collard greens ready.
And don't forget the corn bread !!!!
