Joe Crosby Obituary

Joe I. Crosby CHARLOTTE - Joe I. Crosby, 92, went to his real home on Sunday, February 7, 2016, where he was embraced by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joe served in the Air Force from February 4, 1943 until October 12, 1945. He flew 50 bombing missions with the 15th Air Force based in Italy. He received a purple heart during WWII. Following the war Joe was a supervisor in air traffic control, until his retirement in 1980. Joe was a member of First Baptist Charlotte for over 50 years, enjoyed gardening, playing golf, reading and crossword puzzles. Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy B. Crosby; son, Joe I. Crosby (Celia) of Weaverville NC; daughter, Connie Crosby of Charlotte NC; grandsons, Bryan Bonds and Joe Crosby IV (Jessica); granddaughter, Whitney Lanham (Micah); step-grandsons, Ricky Brown, Alex Brown; son-in-law, Larry Bonds (Madeline); sister-in-law, Phyllis Teague (Jack); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Bonds. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 301 South Davidson Street or a charity of your choice. Joe was one of the best supervisors I had in the FAA. We worked together in the late 60's My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time.

I last saw Joe when he came to comfort me at my husband, Bert Guthrie, celebration services. Bert thought highly of Joe and the quality of his work and his life. God bless you all
