I attended ASU with Larry and a lot of his buddies from Charlotte. He was a great guy. He and I once went to visit his Grandmother in I think Lenoir. Larry went upstairs and me and his Grandmother who I never met before were downstairs. Larry never came back downstairs and after 15-20 minutes we went upstairs and he was asleep in his Grandmas bed. Larry was unique but a very very nice guy to know. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. RIP Gree Man Tommy Long

I just checked the Myers Park HS website for the class of 1968 and was stunned to learn of Larry's passing. I too attended my first boy-girl party at Larry's house back in 6th grade with Peggy Major. Was even sweet on him in 7th grade. : ) I never knew him after we all became adults but from reading everything here he must have a been a truly wonderful and fun person to have for a friend. It gives me great peace to know that he is now with his Lord and Savior in heaven.

I attended my first "girl-boy" party at Larry's in the six grade! Always thought he was a wonderful person. Lost track of him....didn't remember he graduated from Myers Park...I stayed in the South district. Not surprised to read all the wonderful things people have written. My heart goes out to his family.

I remember Larry well as a student at Wingate College '68-'70. His sense of humor was infectious and his joking manner added much to any conversation. I don't recall his ever making a disparaging remark about anyone--he seemed to find the humor in every situation. Although I never met his family, they must have loved him dearly. My condolences to all. That I continue to remember him 40 years after I last spoke to him is a testament to his friendliness, genuineness, and his character. God bless the Grist family

To the Grist Family,

Please accept my sincere condolences. I had the blessing not to mention the pleasure of meeting Larry when I first started to work with Ferguson Enterprises and I was introduced to him at our branch on Graham street. Everytime I saw Larry he always had a smile and a kind word for you. I loved his sense of humor. He was a people person for sure. Every year Ferguson received Christmas Cards from the Grist Family, and may I take this opportunity to tell you all that Larry was a part of a very beautiful family. I had the pleasure of keeping in touch with Larry while he was home , through e mails....and you know, you could feel his love and personality in these e mails... My personal note to Larry "Rest in Peace, please take with you the love and respect that you received from me and everyone who knew you!" May God comfort your family and friends....love, ann marie smith (Ferguson in Charlotte) <3

My family knew the Grists when I was growing up. Judge Grist and Mrs Jane instilled such godly, loving values their family. Larry you were a wonderful person and you will be missed by all that knew you. I am sure Judge Bill and Mrs Jane were right there greeting you into heaven. My prayer is the Lord will cover each of you with comfort and the assurance that you too will be with Larry again one day. Until then, always remember how blessed you each were to have had such a wonderful husband and Dad.

It's been a while since I'd seen Larry but some of the best memories of my college days involve him. I'll always remember Larry as a kind and good guy. I'm ashamed that we hadn't stayed in touch, but such is life. Debbie and I will always remember great times that include Larry and will pray for his family.
