Mr. McGinn was my Vice Principal at West. I struggled in High School with severe depression (we didn't know that is what was going on) I left school early alot and I had to have him sign me out/permission. I will always remember how gracious he was with me and never made me feel bad about my absences. That was a big deal for me.

Coach McGinn taught me Math in 8th Grade and Health and PE in 9th Grade at Ranson Jr High (1964-66). Thanks to him I had no trouble with Algebra. He was one of my customers at Hardee's on Little Rock Rd when I was a manager there in the early 1980's.

Coach McGinn was one of my football coaches at Olympic HS during the 1970-1972 football seasons. He was also my P.E. teacher and, when I was a senior at Olympic, he was my Physical Science teacher. That Physical Science class was probably my favorite class that I took in high school and it was because he made it so much fun. We both left Olympic following the 1972-1973 school year; I graduated and Mr McGinn took a job as an Assistant Principal at West Mecklenburg HS. I became a commuter student at UNC Charlotte and would stop by to visit him at West Mecklenburg in the afternoons on my way home from UNCC. My friend Rick Stack and I visited Coach McGinn and his wife Sarah at their home in Salisbury about 5 years ago. Thank you for everything you did for me, Coach McGinn. I will love you forever!

My senior year at West Mecklenburg (1980) I was his assistant during 6th period. He was a very firm but very fair man. I have always considered it an honor to know him. My heart goes out to his family.

I am so very sorry. I was so sure Mr. McGinn would live forever! He is and always will be a super hero in my eyes! He has added a new voice to the Heavenly choir.

Class of 1984: He was so patient with me. I needed to leave school early a lot and he had to sign my paper. He never made me feel bad about it like he just knew I was struggling with depression. Condolences to the family..

Joe was a neighbor when we were in Berryhill School, and in a quartet together. We enjoyed a lot of activities together. My wife and I got to visit Joe and Sarah in Salisbury a few years ago. He was a good friend and companion during our school years. May God's greatest blessings be with all the family. ><}}}*>

Joe always had interesting things to say at our Sunday School meetings. We will miss him.
