Kevin Toomb

Charlotte, Ohio - Kevin Toomb, age 74, of Dayton, Ohio (Formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina) passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024. He was born on November 29, 1949 in New York City to the late John Robert and Mary Christine (nee: Tinnelly) Toomb.
Kevin was a proud graduate of Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey and even a prouder graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. It was at Iona where he met many of his life-long friends, Joe , Jimmy ,Leon and Walter. From New York he traveled to Illinois State University for his master's in communication where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Back in New York City, he worked for several major banks and gave of his free time to advocacy for adopted and special needs children.
Completing in Doctor of Philosophy in communications at Florida State University, he relocated to Charlotte, N.C. in 1994, working in banking while dedicating his talents and energies in local charitable and philanthropic organizations that focused on nurturing and celebrating the diversity of his community. Building bonds and relationships between people of different backgrounds and cultures was always one of his passions. Turning to the University of North Carolina, Charlotte in 2007, Kevin was the clinical professor of marketing in the Belk College of Business. His course specialties included marketing, management, international business, and entrepreneurship. Being on the Board of Countryside Montessori School was a privilege and passion for Kevin,, going to primary classrooms there weekly, reading aloud favorite books, sharing with them his passion for reading.
He is survived by his three siblings; Katheen Toomb Oakes (Woody) of Dayton, Ohio, Martin Toomb (Peggy) of Surf City, New Jersey, Robert Toomb (Laura) of Mason, Ohio. Brother Dermot tragically died the week of Kevin's graduation from high school.
Kevin was a devoted uncle to Andrew (Cari) Oakes, Maureen Oakes, Maura (Xavier) Toomb Estevez, Sheila (Nate) Pettigrew, Conor Toomb, Megan Toomb, Jack Toomb, Kate Toomb and Claire Toomb. Kevin loved to be with his grand nephews and nieces Samuel, Henry, Jack, Maggie, Eliza and Lucy.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
