Louise Bowers Cobb
September 9, 1924 - June 13, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Louise Bowers Cobb, 97, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022. She was born in Newberry, SC the daughter of the late Rosalyn Hipp Bowers and Andrew Jackson Bowers, Jr.
Louise graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College in 1945 majoring in Music Theory and Latin. She also pursued graduate study in Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Louise was married to Paul B. Cobb, a Lutheran pastor, in 1947, and served with him in several parishes, one in Virginia and then in North Carolina. After their two daughters were in grade school, Louise began her career as a high school Latin teacher. She taught at Charlotte Country Day School from 1966-1989. Upon her retirement as a Latin teacher, she served as a substitute organist at many Mecklenburg and Charlotte churches. She also was involved with CAMUS, the national society for teachers of the classics. Louise loved to travel and took several trips to Italy with her Latin students and completed a Reformation Luther Tour to Germany with her family and several other pastors. Louise also enjoyed singing, and she and her husband, Paul, sang in the Charlotte Choral Society and the Charlotte Oratorio Singers. She instilled in her family a great love of music and of singing which are carried on in her family.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Ellen Cobb Yates and her husband, John C.; a grandson, John Paul Yates; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Luna Yates and a nephew, Roy Jackson Dodd (Jack). She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Rosalyn; sister, Rosemary Bowers Dodd and a nephew, Kurt A. Dodd.
A Service of Worship, witnessing to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life of Louise Bowers Cobb, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy McKenzie officiating. Louise's inurnment will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, SC.
Louise's family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the CNA's of the Cypress of Charlotte who took excellent care of her.
