Margaret King Obituary

Margaret McArthur King
Mrs. King, 65, of Charlotte, NC, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC after a nine-month battle with cancer. She was born March 4, 1946 in Greenville, NC, daughter of the late James Robert McArthur and Frances Dilda McArthur. Margaret grew up in Clearwater, Florida.
Margaret graduated from Florida State University and taught second grade for a short time before going to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After graduation from Southwestern she served as Children's Minister at First Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, MS. She also served as a consultant for Lifeway in Nashville, TN. Her last staff position prior to retirement was Minister to Pre-School families at First Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her husband, Martin King, she is survived by a step-son, Eric King and his wife, Shauna, and their children of Rolesville, NC, and a step-daughter, Michelle Hait and her husband, Brian, of Indonesia. Margaret is also survived by a brother, Gil McArthur and his wife, Mary Ann, of Clearwater, FL. Other family members include nephews, James McArthur of Clearwater, David McArthur of Atlanta, Dean Kruger of Jacksonville, FL; and nieces, Elizabeth Whiteley of Tampa, Liza Johnson of Wilmington, NC, and Celeste Kruge of Greensboro, NC.
The delights of Margaret's life were her six grandchildren. Grandma Maggie enjoyed baking cakes, shopping for clothes, reading books to them, and just hanging out with Andrew, Megan, Abigail, Jason, Katherine, and Anna.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Pregnancy Resource Center, 1505 E. Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, or First Baptist Church (pre-school ministry), 301 South Davidson Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

We were very sad at the news of Margaret's passing. May the family find peace in knowing that she lived a most Christ oriented life and was a wonderful example to the many children whom she guided through her children's ministry. She will truly be missed. Robby and Janice Helms Charlotte, N.C.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Margaret, she was a dear lady, supervisor, and friend. I worked with Margaret in the childrens ministry at FBC-Charlotte a few years before her retirement. I found her to be very devoted to this ministry and all the children loved Mrs. King. My deepest sympathies go out to Martin and her entire family as they cope with their loss. My prayer is that God will comfort them as no one else can.
