Martha McJunkins Obituary

Martha "Jane" McJunkins

April 21, 1930 - May 3, 2024

Matthews, North Carolina - Jane was born in Badin, NC the only child of Clarence S. and Lila Post McJunkins.

She attended school in Badin before graduating from Virginia Intermont Preparatory High School, Women's College of UNC and Winthrop University with a MS in Speech Pathology.

Throughout her teaching career she worked with children, including those with special needs. Her joy was in helping children, across NC, grow intellectually and spiritually. She kept in contact with many of her students through the years. Jane loved her church Providence Baptist in Charlotte, NC. and volunteered with children there for many years.

Summer vacations meant traveling with her friend Sue Hopper in Europe, South America and the US or enjoying glorious days at Cherry Grove Beach with friends.

On Saturday, June 1, at 10:30 AM, we invite you to join us in celebrating Jane in the chapel at Matthews Glen Retirement Community. Jane lived the last 20+ years at Matthews Glen (Plantation Estates) in Matthews, NC developing new friendships and contributing to the life of the community. She was very grateful for the care she received there in the last two years.

Surviving are cousins Susan (David) Eagleton, Clark (Barbara) Post and other cousins in Tennessee, Ohio, and Michigan. She also leaves behind Kyle Tyner and the Ed Haire family who 'adopted' and loved her as their own for more than 50 years. She blessed our lives.

Memorials may be made to Matthews Glen Samaritan's Fund and Providence Baptist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Tribute & Tallent Funeral & Cremations.
