Mildred Little Obituary

Mildred Crowder Little
August 21, 1916 - October 15, 2021
Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Mildred Crowder Little was born and reared in High Point, NC. After graduating from Meredith College and attending UNC School of Social Work, she lovingly placed children into adoptive families for Children's Home Society of Greensboro. Her marriage to Crowell Little was hastened by the bombing of Pearl Harbor due to his imminent deployment. Crowell's career took them to UNC and Davidson as a football coach and back to Chapel Hill, where he established Crowell Little Ford. They retired to Carolina Meadows in 1997. Through their 61 years of marriage they loved and cared for each other, extended family, and countless friends.
Mildred leaves behind one beloved son, Crowell "Sandy" Little Jr., wife Daphne McKee Little, two grandsons, Christopher Crowell Little, Matthew McKee Little and wife Kristin Kazala Little, and two precious great-grandchildren, Ian Zachary and Keira Bree. She is mourned by a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, their children, and grandchildren. Love lives.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, C. Crowell Little, her parents, Maxey Jefferson Crowder and Lillian Hawthorne Crowder, and 8 siblings: Louise Leonard, Edith Cloniger, Helen Finch, Geneva Warren, Maxey Crowder Jr., John Crowder, Richard Crowder, and Joan Christy, beloved in-laws, and other gone-too-soon relatives. Love lives.
The family thanks the dedicated staff of The Pines whose care enabled "Great Mildred" to live with her grace and dignity intact.
Her life will be celebrated by family in the Memorial Garden of University Presbyterian Church Chapel Hill, her church home. Memorials may be made to UPCCH, Hospice, or a favorite charity. The Cremation Society of the Carolinas is assisting the Little family.
