CALABASH -- Mr. Overturf, 64, of Durham Avenue, SW, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 in the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC.
Mr. Overturf was born in Peoria, IL on April 22, 1942 a son of the late Oris and Helen Frances Fairchild Overturf. Before retiring he worked as a building inspector for the City of North Myrtle Beach for nineteen years. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in Viet Nam. Mr. Overturf was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Merry Lynn Funderburk Overturf of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Overturf Ward, husband Cleo, of Lakeview, SC and Janis Overturf Williams, husband Adam, of Raeford, NC; a son, Dondi Coggins, wife Kelly, of Charlotte, NC; two brothers Bill Overturf of Jacksonville, FL and Ed Overturf of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Tyler Ward, Adelle Ward, Jacob Brown, Danielle Kline and Charlie Coggins, IV; and one great-grandchild, Malkayla Kline.
A celebration of life will be conducted Friday, August 25, 2006 at 6:00 PM in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00-6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 4390, Chapel Hill, NC 27515 or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 10 Doctor Circle, Suite 4, Supply, NC 28462.
