Nicholas Carusillo Obituary
Nick was smart, strong, funny, kind, compassionate and full of love. Above all Nick had strong faith and belief in God that he shared with many. He loved sports and everything outdoors, football, soccer, baseball, fishing, boating, skiing, wakeboarding. He was the consummate athlete and excelled at every sport he participated in. During high school Nick was varsity soccer goalie and varsity football kicker. He excelled so much at football he had an opportunity to play division 1 college ball. His dad coached him on many championship teams. After graduating high school he continued his college education and became a certified EMT. Those that knew Nick loved him for his personality his loyalty and his energy. He was a good guy with a big heart and loved deeply.
Nick suffered with bipolar disorder (manic depressive illness) coupled with addiction. This is a debilitating disease often stigmatized by society and mishandled by our medical system. Nick fought hard and we had high hopes for his battle with this disease.
We thank those who helped him along the way and all those who loved him. And a heartfelt thanks to all those in the AA community.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Helen and Michael Carusillo Jr and his maternal grandmother Yvonne Linderman Levesque.
He is survived by his parents Tina and Michael Carusillo III, sister Jessica Carusillo, son Brayden Burton and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be this Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11:00 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to either the Charlotte Rescue Mission, charlotterescuemission.org http://bit.ly/crm-carusillo or the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance http://bit.ly/carusillo.

Nick was a great person, athlete and friend. He truly brought laughter to every class and game we had. I heard he was going through some tough times, but I will always remember him as the fun kid with the afro. RIP Nick, I know you are in a better place.

I met Nick 13 years ago on Oct. 23rd on my first day walking into "the room". I lost touch with him in the last 10 years but am deeply saddened to hear this news. He was a great person! Great person! A good friend. We were known as the "young ones" then. He helped me A LOT that first year. There was a small group of us "young ones" and they saved me. I'm sorry this happened. Gone too soon. Great guy ❤

I knew Nick from the skating rink days and then into High School. I was a cheerleader for the team when he was a kicker. One thing that stays with me about Nick was his smile, it was HUGE and contagious. I am beyond sorry for your loss, and wish nothing but peace for you all. Nick will be missed. God Bless

Nick was a great guy just like they said in his obituary. I'm glad they mentioned his mental illness and addiction. I don't understand why people allow the stigma to stop the truth from being out there. Hopefully we can learn from his struggle. I know I have. I will keep his family and friends in my prayers.
