Charlotte, North Carolina - Oscar William White Jr., affectionately known as "Big O", was born February 25, 1929, and changed his residence to a mansion in Heaven on December 22, 2022. He was born in Charlotte, NC, and was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betty Stephens White; father, Oscar William White; and mother, Irene Ray White; and his sister, Betty Freeman. He loved and was loved by his family and many friends.
Oscar started his career as a Firefighter in 1953 and retired with 41 years' service as a Captain. He loved God, his family and he loved the Charlotte Fire Department and he let everyone he met know it. After retiring for health reasons, he drove for the Red Cross for 25 years transporting people to doctor's appointments. He still enjoyed visiting various fire stations having lunch with them and telling stories of how things were at the fire department during his early career. Oscar had a servant's heart and always enjoyed helping others. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loyal friend to many.
Oscar loved his family and loved to brag about his five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was present for every birth and was always happy to show you pictures and tell you about their accomplishments.
Oscar was a long-time member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and served two terms as Deacon. He loved to Usher on Sunday mornings so he could talk with people as he never met a stranger.
Oscar is survived by his children, Brenda Walker (CB), Tom White (Donna), Bonus Son John Foster (Linda); and his grandchildren, Tiffany Batchelor (Mark), Andy Walker (Allison), Ashley Walling (Kevin), April Greer (Gary) and Casey White (Angela); and great grands, Caroline, Connor, Chloe Walling, Garrison, Caden, Brady Greer, Alex, Austin Walker, Lilly, Thomas and Anna White.
All of us celebrate the joy of Dad being reunited with Mom and loved ones who have gone on before. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Harris Campus Worship Center, with Dr. John Harrill officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:30 am with service starting at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
