Philip Ezzell Smith
CONCORD -- Mr. Smith, age 69, Concord, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 7pm until 9pm. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 19 at 11am at Pitts Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Cabarrus County on November 20, 1941 to the late Ezzell Washington Smith and Ashlyn Marcia Wensil Smith.
Mr. Philip Ezzell Smith is survived by his spouse of 22 years, Gail Preslar Smith of the home; sons, Jason Smith and wife Lyndsay, of Gastonia, Kevin Gardner and wife Mary, of Fort Mill, SC; daughter; Cindy Wilson and husband John of Charlotte; grandchildren, Lauren Yates, Luke and Todd Gardner, Carly and Jenna Gardner and Dillon Ezzell Smith; sister, Patsy Mattlingly of Phoenix, AZ.
Philip began his career as a jeweler with Beam's Jewelers in Charlotte where he worked for more than 40 years. He also was associated with Donald Haack Diamonds before returning to his home town of Concord. In Concord, he was associated with Christopher Jewelers for 15 years before opening his own jewelry store, Philip Smith Diamonds and Designs, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2009.
A member of Pitts Baptist Church and a Vietnam veteran, Philip's passions were his church family, his family, and fishing.
Memorials may be made to Pitts Baptist Church Building Fund, 140 Pitts School Rd NW, Concord, NC 28027.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Smith family.

Gail, I just read about Phil! I am so shocked! Danny & I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We loved talking with Phil and seeing him and you around town. Please know that you will be in our prayers! We pray that God will continue to comfort you during this time. Enjoy the many memories of Phil and look forward to seeing him again!
