Reid Barrett Obituary

Colonel Reid A. Barrett
(US Army, Ret.)
Col. Barrett, age 75, entered into eternal life on June 16, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 12, 1931 in Rock Hill, SC to the late Rev. James Anderson and Helen Reid Barrett. He graduated from Rock Hill High and attended the Citadel in Charleston for two years prior to being accepted at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
He graduated with the class of 1956 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Reid had a distinguished career in the US Army serving in many worldwide locations, including Germany, Vietnam and Korea. Col. Barrett retired in 1986 after 30 years of selfless service to the nation.
Following retirement, Reid continued his service to the community in a myriad of ways through work with Habitat for Humanity, the Boy Scouts of America and other local and national organizations.
His favorite pastimes were gardening, growing roses, traveling collecting eagles and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Huberta Brenner Barrett; sons, Col. Gerald G. Barrett (US Army), his wife, Linda, and their sons Bryan and Matthew; Ronald R. Barrett and his children Zachary, Brandon and Jaclyn; and Clark C. Barrett his wife, Shara, and their daughter Hannah; sister, Betty Bell and husband, David, of Mint Hill; brother, Dr. Charles D. Barrett and wife, Sally, Boiling Springs, SC; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Barrett of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Betty Barrett of Laurinburg, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 6800 Sardis Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment with military honors will take place at USMA cemetery, West Point, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Stephen UMC Pastor Relief Fund, 6800 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28270, or to Hospice at Charlotte and Palliative Care, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements.

Margaret and I are very sorry to hear about Reid's death. Haven't seen you since our visit at Ft Knox 20 years ago, but thought of you often. Fond memories of the days at Ft. Stewart, Germany, and Ft Knox.
